What's wrong with mint?

qbittorrent, mpv, skype/viber whatever you use, some other audio player like clementine, an office suite that actually works with MS formats like WPS office, idk man it's your computer.
If you're on Cinnamon take a good look around all of the settings and set it up how you like it, don't be like a Windows user and take it as it is by default.

Only install what you need.
You may be going through bloat-withdrawal but it will wear off shortly. Eventually you will want to have a completely clean system and switch to Arch. Mint will appear disgusting by comparison.

those aren't chinks. those are filthy indians
Install guake (and htop for a cool system monitor on the command line.) also install the "inconsolata" font, it is great for terminal and coding
The programs you need to normally operate your computer.

ttf-ancient-fonts
ubuntu-restricted-extras
VirtualBox if you'd like to run Windows
and... I forget what else. Whatever you need, like rsync or screen or openssh-server. Owncloud from its own repo.

third times the charm?
Sell your PC and buy a rMBP or keep your PC and install Windows if you ever want to get any real work done. I guess if you like flipping burgers and having some faggot computer hobby you could play with toys like Linux though.
