I mainly only use IRC to ask questions about Arch or kernel compiling tips/help because since systemd took over I've been out of the loop with my knowledge of services and init scripts systemd-style. I've been used to sysvinit.
I've had good, helpful experiences with IRC but there is always that 1 user (or 2-3) that is just a smug fuck to everyone in the chat. I was having an issue setting the I/O scheduler at boot-time and I just asked where can I enable a startup script as Google just shows a bunch of different methods that may or may not work. (I know how to now no thanks to IRC)
A user then asked me do I actually have the scheduler installed and proceeded to smugly throw insults at me about my kernel choices and how I'm an idiot and I should already know how to do this stuff. How helpful.

protip: they don't know how to fix it either. if you want to use linux it really is all up to you

>>51868399
This is correct. Though sometimes it happens that you find a good soul who is there to actually help you and not make you feel bad but it's rare.
>>51868357
Try /tech/ next time too they are high level neckbeards that may help
