>Linuxfags will defend this
How the fuck is this allowed?
Is there any distro where this works?
What's the easiest way to rename multiple files?
Post webm for proof.
>>
>>51861764
Thunar can do that. Is this a bait?
>>
Linux a shit. Completely your fault for even thinking of possibly wanting to give it some kind of opportunity.
>>
>>51861764
Batch renaming is possible but only through the terminal. This is in no case an excuse as it is extremely unintuitive for newcomers.
But then again, I don't know of any other OS that has batch renaming built into their GUI out of the box.
>>
>>51861828
>>51861764

I don't see what the Linux kernel has to do with his GUI file manager's inability to bulk rename files.
>>
>>51861876
ok then, let me rephase the question:
Why can't majority of file managers do bulk rename?

linux does not compete as a modern desktop OS.
diehard fans will argue this for days, but frankly it's a fact. Linux isn't ready for the common populace, no matter what skin you put on it. It's unfinished. All these distros developing separately trying to reinvent the wheel are only slowing the process down.
Ubuntu is close, but it'll never be better than it's competition (or even taken seriously) because they sullied its good name by including amazon bloatware.
Until the community gets together and makes something that 'just works', linux will be reserved for those 'power users' who would prefer it.
Perhaps that's just the way it should be.
In the meantime, let's not pretend Linux is something it is not.

All file systems can be replaced. Nothing is permanent. You say you need prove but would you fuck off and accept that anything you want to do can be done on a linux dsitro. It may make you swear doing it but it can be done given you have the time.

Fedora can be turned into linux mint.

So we a simple functions like renaming multiple files excite your simply mind?

Hell give me a command line and I can copy my partition and load it onto another brand new disk and then load directly off that brand new disk running the same system as when it was copied.

If you say so. Look, if you're actually interested into knowing more about linux there's the /sqt/ and the linux friendly threads, just follow the rules and i'm sure that you'll get answers, also the best way to learn about an os you don't know is trying it by yourself instead of speculating which is better because that's something very subjective, don't be afraid, you can start on a virtual machine if partitioning scares you at first.

>GTK = Linux

You're not allowed to make troll threads outside of /b/.
People complain that GTK+ is a dumbed-down piece of shit, and then they switch to Qt only to resume their tantrum because the default theme happens to be somewhat ugly.
>>
>>51863792
>I know something about technology.
If you don't know what ffmpeg is, you do not know much about technology.

I understand your ignorance, but it is not acceptable to shitpost about things you are ignorant about. Why would you go into a thread about Linux and act like you know what you're talking about when you don't know the first thing about it?
>>
1) Many file managers do have this feature

2) You can do this through shell scripts, which provides much more possibilities in some situations and use cases. For example to rename all png images in a directory with a script:

i=0
for file in *.png ; do
mv "$file" "new filename $i.png"
let i+=1
done

3) There is commands like "rename" for replacing patterns in filenames, again this is through the command line which can offer much more possibilities and use cases.

4) There is graphical file renaming software on Linux.

Basically go fuck yourself OP, and all the Windows-fags that browse here and do nothing but shit up the board can go fuck themselves too.
>>
>>51863830
>>51863846

Impatience might be a factor but I mean, seriously why couldn't someone just shut me up with a webm like this guy >>51862282 and the next few that followed.

Sure I could go and spend my time installing Linux and messing with FFMPEG or even searching for how it's done and seeing if I run into an article that proves me wrong but it happened here with webms being posted.

I know it's not your job to prove me wrong but how about proving yourselves right? how hard is it? Anyone in this thread responding to OP is to some degree trying to change somebody elses mind on something they're wrong about.

That webm didn't prove anything to me about ffmpeg. What I see in that webm is the ability to get a webm in Linux os.

Even then I"m assuming it's some sort of gui. If not I'd be unimpressed again. I can't stand the thought of having to write and compile code just to get a simple webm or bulk rename done like this >>51863793. I can't see that being a quick painless ordeal unless you're spent at least one year fucking with Linux. I'm not trying to spend that much time just to see results.

that's what I meant.

No, just tech support. You must be new here.

You're not even comprehending what you're thinking correctly.

Webm is a container format, that holds video/audio/subs. What you were thinking Linux didn't have is screen recording capabilities.

ffmpeg is designed and primarily for Linux. Almost all the developers are using Linux. Almost any non-proprietary software you see that has to do with decoding or encoding of video formats, is using ffmpeg.

Basically you're fucking retarded, you know nothing about technology, you create shitposts, and you should leave this board.

You don't compile shell scripts retard.

Just leave /g/.

linux is a modular system.
many people coming from windows don't understand this
unlike windows, there are usually many ways/programs that accomplish the same tasks, and each has its strengths and weaknesses.
so many windows users will install one DE, which is really just a large set of software. then, when they try to do something, and that software doesn't support it, it becomes a "linux can't do x" feature, when there is probably another program that can.
also, if you don't want to deal with the cli of a particular popular program (like ffmpeg) there is probably a gui somewhere (like winff).
for example, >>51864597 records his screen with ssr, which outputs directly to webm
I use kazam, which outputs to mp4 or something, and then convert to webm
both work
