I think I may have a problem, /g/.
I just upgraded from an R9 280x to a Fury, and it seems like I'm getting worse framerates in games using the same settings at 1080p. Could /g/ offer any help with this?
>>
I'd like to add that I'm also not getting 100% gpu or cpu usage in a lot of games most of the time, it hovers around 30-40%.
>>
Another note, it's not every single game. It seems like it's only certain games, while other games have a noticeable performance increase over the 280x. Mostly newer games.
>>

Shit tastes aside, how often do you really need to use it, that it warrants not using the latest drivers? Stop being an idiot.

Mine definitely outperforms my old overclocked 290, so the problem is most likely your settings, the game, or you.

Check your AA settings in Catalyst, first. Make sure you've gotten everything set up like it was before.

I've replaced 20+ powersupplies that have burned out at multiple businesses. The only time I can remeber a powersupply taking anything out was when some guy got electrocuted in the shower and it was somehow related to the computer...
...
Now I kinda want to hear that story again. He was taking a shower and the steam...
hardrive failed... powersupply....
What the fuck was that story again, I kinda feel like there was even a lightening strike in it.

Maybe he jizzed on his powersupply and just didn't want to say that's what happened. I don't remember it smelling though.

>>51860725

Wattage doesn't mean shit if the psu can't supply it. A lot of cheap high wattage units only supply a fraction of their wattage on the 12v rail, and huge amounts (which aren't needed) on 5v rails. A quality unit will supply its rated wattage on the 12v rail alone.

>>
>>51860911
The MSI cards are some of the best for the 300 series. They're very well designed, eveything is there for a reason.

No one uses STRIX or Asus cards for AMD, and for good reason. The coolers are the exact same as the ones they use for Nvidia, because they cheaped ou. Needless to say, they fucking suck ass, run loud, don't cool properly, and you won't be able to OC at all. If you have an Asus AMD card, replace it if you still can, as soon as possible. They fucking suck.
>>
>>51860911
>>51860934
The Asus cards just use the cooler from their NVidia cards, so it's optimized for those. They just slap it onto the AMD GPUs without any changes, so it's pretty inefficient on those.

>>
>>51860956

>>
>>51860956
I didn't run any synthetic benchmark on my GPU, only ever tested it in real scenarios (games).

The only game that made it get really hot (>78ºC) was Witcher 3 with everything cranked up to Ultra, with only the Gameworks features toned down to medium, and it still ran fine at over 55FPS anywhere, very rare drops.

Though that was before I realized that running games in Windowed Fullscreen made the card get a bit hotter and performance worse. Also before I started fiddling with fan profiles, so the fans were shut down before 60ºC.

I should run Furmark though, I'm actually curious how well it would do, and how hot it would get.

1080p, by the way.

75ºC is perfectly fine for a 390. That chip is made to be able to work flawlessly during 4 or 5 years at 95ºC. 75ºC is a joke for that chip, only reason you don't want it higher is because it also increases the temps of all your other components.

Anything under 80ºC, and you're just fine, don't worry. Over 80ºC, you probably should look into it, and figure out how to decrease it a bit.

Oh I'm blind as fuck I was reading it as 2x 980's in sli.
Though tri crossfire has that frame delivery inconstancy issue from what I've read.
I'm interested in going dual or quad crossfire though.

Mate, I don't know how you're getting such shitty fps. But here is 970 after 2 minutes. I had to run it twice btw, that's why min temp is so high, seems like printscreen doesn't work properly in furmark (it takes a pic of 00:00:00).

Afaik it's better now that it works througth PCIe instead of a bridge. It still need profiles in driver tho.
>>
ITT people forget that Nvidia and AMD have different levels of throttling in the likes of furmark and other well known heat stressers. Nvidia throttles extremely aggressively where AMD doesn't as much.

Said throttling is written into the driver as furmark and whatnot can - and will - kill cards due to the insane load they put on your card (not all of which is on the core - the vrms get fucking HOT but few cards have sensors on them).
>>
>>51861496

Its a damn fine card for 1080p anon, damn fine.

Ca... Can I crank my settings up....?

>>
>>51861906
You should be able to max quite a few games, maybe stay away from too much AA but other than that you're good.
>>
>>51861906

The 380 is for starting every setting on high and adjusting up or down from there, as >>51861934 says some settings - most commonly msaa - kill performance for very little visual quality improvement.

Hell a decently overclocked 4gb 380 gives a good stab at 1440p gaming.

That's not true. It has always been on par with the 970.

>>
>>51862074
nah
>>
>>51862043
If anyone can give me any source at all that can support this claim I will believe it. All I'm willing to believe is that the newer 970 receives more optimization than the 780Ti, therefore the 970 may perform relatively better, making the 780Ti look worse in comparison. However, even on recent benchmarks I've still seen them perform similarly. And I'm interested in those charts, as I'm running a 780Ti myself.

>>
>>51862074

If you use the VSR feature in crimson you could probably (I forget the support resolutions off the top of my head) downsample from 1080p to 720p to help reduce the need for stupid levels of AA.

I'd certainly think about upgrading your monitor as 720p is below console resolution these days and that card wants to be unleashed.

Will upgrade monitor soon.
I love having a massive screen though, are 1080p TVs any good for PC screens?

One hard part is finding sites that still test the 780ti - it mostly got forgotten rougly when the titan x released.

Still, this is only at 1080p - at 1440p the gap widens.

I'm inclined to believe you, but has that been confirmed to have been on purpose or just a bug?
>>
>>51862258

Unless you are "herp derp need ma 1ms latency" a TV will suffice. Most current TVs have a game-mode or some sort of equivalent which cuts down on the extra shit they do to improve latency.

Oh really? This is an Nvidia sponsored game no less and look at the horrific performance of the 780. Two years ago it slaughtered a 290, these days its often barely above a 280x/7970ghz which was a goddamn 770 competitor!

>>51862372
The problem with AMD cards is that start out with shitty drivers and only after a year or so people finally figure out how to make their cards not perform like shit.

Remember how disappointingly the Fury X performed at launch, even though it was really fast on paper? In this image you already see it beating Nvidia cards.
>>
>>51862302
Between PR and reality...
It has been fixed, but as >>51862372 said, it' s evident that nvidia just dont give a fuck about his last gen, specially when a 7970 compete with a 780.

Not sure if I could go AMD again desu.
I'm using a 680 lightning which runs faster than the 770 clocks.

I'm waiting for Jan sales to take the upgrade jump. Was looking at a 980 or a used Titan for an upgrade.

Either that or I'll pick up a cheap as fuck 680 lightning of the bay and have fun at 1440p.

Last AMD card I had was the ATI HD4890 Toxic which while was rapid as fuck it idled at 45-50 in a HAF X. That and it NEVER felt as refined/ smooth as the Gtx 260 216 core it replaced.

No driver
never ever
yet for linux.
>>
Okay /g/, so I updated to latest crimson beta driver, and guess what? No change. I have noticed though, monitoring with Afterburner that the core clock doesn't go up to high power mode, but rather hovers around 400-500MHz.
>>
>>51862881

Sadly we cant enjoy AMD as much in europe
With that TDP you might just buy the next tier of Nvidia cards
>>
>>51863840
Dutchfag here, actually. The difference with a 970 is maybe a few € a year.
>>
>>51863602
Metro: Last Light running 10-20 FPS in 4k all ultra no AA. Afterburner says gpu clock at around 500 and game is super choppy. GTAV almost everything max 4k no AA runs 40-50 FPS and 100% gpu usage throughout. Help me the fuck out /g/.
>>
>>51863893

60W more is not "a few € a year"
>>
>>51863954
The most bizarre fucking thing is happening in Metro LL. When I pause the game, the GPU clock goes back up to the stock 1010MHz of my card and when I unpause the game actually runs at a reasonable framerate for a moment. Then the clock quickly goes back down to 500 and I experience shitty framerates again. Could be faulty hardware or maybe the card just needs reseated in the PCIe slot? I've not got my PC in a place where it's very easy to mess with so I would like to get everything sorted out on the software end before I go poking around in there.
>>
>>51863995
That's assuming they're running full blast all day every day. In idle they use about the same power.
>>
>>51863995

nevermind, 152W is alot more than "a few € a year"
>>
>>51864118
Again, you're assuming they're both under 100% load all the time. Their idle power consumption is about the same.
>>
>>51864167
Not even idle, regular use load temps don't get anywhere nearr 152w.
>>
>>51864098
Alright, I figured out that Metro's framerate issues were caused by PhysX, however PhysX never tanked my framerate THIS much when I was using the 280x. I think some of the other games I've been having issues with are also PhysX games, which means my problems have something to do with that. Fucking thanks, nshittia.
>>
>>51864289
What? The R9 290/390 and GTX 970 use about the same amount of power in idle/low load situations. Only when you start putting some 3D load on them is when you'll see a significant difference, and that 150W difference only happens under 100% load, which isn't going to happen often unless you like to run Furmark in the background all the time for some weird reason.
>>
>>51864376
Shit like this is why people need to stop supporting Nvidia's bullshit and buying more AMD products.
>>
>>51858086

Why do you shill for nVidia? You may want to turn off your trip, because I don't remember you making a single useful, helpful post on here since your trip first appeared, just constant shilling for nVidia in AMD related threads, and butthurt in shitposts making fun of nVidia.
