2 in 1 laptop/tablets yay or nay, what do you think /g/?

pic related(asus t100tam running windows 10)
>>
I like them, okay for some use cases

Yay from me.
I've got a ASUS T100 Chi myself and it has never been easier to take one of my own machines to work and to clients.

you shut your face anon, I have most of the rwby character silhouette wallpapers(all that I could find)rotating every 30 seconds, just happened to take this picture while on weiss
>>
>>51855666
At least take the Weiss pictures out of the rotation
>>
>>51855767
why? weiss is one of my favorite characters from the show, qrow, ozpin, ruby, yang, blake, nora, pyrrha, jaune, mercury, etc... are all pretty good too, but right now weiss is my favorite.

yeah, ruby is pretty good too, I just prefer weiss because the silhouette wallpaper I found had a black background :^)

now that you made me think about it, my overall favorite character is Qrow, his choice of weapon is just amazing ::^^)) (pic related)

welcome to the weeb thread, brought to you by /g/
>>
>>51855534
I like 2-in-1's for the simple reason that they are super portable and usually have extremely good battery life, like the t100tam has almost 12 hours of screen on time on 1 charge
>>
I'm not sure about how newer models hold up, but the Latitude XT2 is really something else.
>matte touchscreen with pen digitizer (built in pen caddy)
>not überHD but not 1366x768
>trackpoint
>rocker on side of screen, in tablet mode can be used for turning pages in PDFs, scrolling, etc.
>>

Anyways, I have a t100 tam myself and frankly it feels like absolute shit on 10. It keeps running out of ram, generally running slowly, and just fucking up completelt

Is this possible, /g/?
>>
>>51856668
>Blake
as I said its either Weiss, Winter, ozpin, nora, pyrrha or Qrow

>>51856668
only problem I have with 10 on it is that if I dont set it to hibernate on lid close, the touchscreen will stop working, only way to get it back working is to go to the device manager and disable-enable it.

but I just hibernate on lid close and it works okay

>>51856697
yes, its usable but some features like auto rotate might be missing depending on kernel version and drivers
>>
>>51856670

I prefer that the keyboard is detachable so I can carry only the screen, so its more lightweight
>>
>>51856718
Do you have experience with particular model of 2 in 1 on Debian?
What hardware was it?
I'd be even interested in programming some sort of UI for Debian to be usable on tablets and 2 in 1.
>>
>>51855534
i had an android version of one of those asus transformers
i've also used a few windows tablets
what i've learned from this is that in a tablet i want android (no need for a keyboard) and what i want from a laptop is windows (stupid without a keyboard).
if i had to have one and only one machine then i'd be tempted by a windows 2 in 1 but not fully sold because the specs tend to be a bit rubbish
>>
>>51856733
I tried debian, ubuntu and arch(I know its a meme distro, but in this case the "bleeding edge" was actually useful) on my Asus T100TAM

all worked about the same, only a couple small things missing but completely usable.

>>51856762
well, my t100tam has enough power to run 32bit windows 10 and office/web browser/vpn/remote desktop, so its enough for me, I love it for its size, weight and battery life
>>
>>51856724
Well yeah but then you just have a tablet with a keyboard. This is a laptop that doubles as a tablet. I have an 8" tablet for when I want a tablet
>>
>>51856825
choices my friend, choices.
>>
>>51856773
what cpu/ram/gpu?
could it run decent emus and source games?
>>
>>51856844
the t100tam is an atom based machine with integrated graphics and 2gb ram, its more of a lightweight computer than a gaming machine

but on windows 10 it does manage to run minecraft and candy crush, so I doubt source games are an issue

OP here again, for some more power needing tasks I also have this dell e6220 with i3 and 6gb ram and 120gb ssd
>>
>>51856860
see this is the problem, those specs are more fit for an android tablet, no good for windows
atom cpu's are junk (i've owned and used enough to know)
2gb is simply not enough (i'd want 4gb)
they usually have some old fashioned integrated graphics that are also junk
>>
How often do you guys use the non-laptop orientations? I'm debating between a 2-in-1 and a regular laptop right now and I don't know if the hinge is a gimmick or what
>>
>>51856915
as I said earlier in >>51856773
"t100tam has enough power to run 32bit windows 10 and office/web browser/vpn/remote desktop, so its enough for me"

no android tablet allows me to run OneNote or M$ word desktop versions, or use any other windows applications
>>
>>51856940
ok but then what benefit does it have as a tablet?
why not just get a small laptop with more ports and better keyboard etc
>>
>>51856994
it has a touchscreen which feels easier to use from time to time, it has long battery life, good keyboard, lightweight, small and cheap, also I can detach the keyboard and hold the tablet in one hand and draw in onenote with the other when taking notes while moving

>>
>>51855832

Android isn't a viable option.

There is an Ubuntu install that I've looked into for my T100, but really all I needed to do was put WIN10 in performance mode and its sailing away.
>>
>>51857597

Actually, it applies to very little in life I've found:

It's a good, low overhead way to safeguard yourself I suppose; but for virtually any product there is a lower than premium cost alternative that offers the same, or nearly the same advantages as a premium option.

In certain cases, the less expensive option is actually definitively better than the higher priced competitor.

Try not to think in terms of binary choices. Shades of grey, not black and white.

I set myself up with an i3/HD4000/11.6" Thinkpad Edge E130.

Runs games like Spintires fairly well, and with dual SSD's in raid1 Windows and programs start rather nicely :)

I can't honestly think of a reason to go for a 2-in-1, unless you want Windows in a tablet and are willing to sacrifice any performance.
>>
>>51874135
I like the tablet mode since I dont need the performance and its useful in certain situations

and the T100TAM charges through micro usb so I can use the same charger for my phone :3
>>
>>51874135
Some people don't need performance out of a mobile device. I replaced my laptop with a tablet because of this. Lighter weight, better battery life, smaller, etc.

I can't speak for everyone, but I mostly use my tablet for reading and watching movies / shows. A little more power would be nice but not at the expense of battery life.

Been looking around for a 2-in-1 since my laptop is starting to fall apart

Or maybe just a tablet + stand + keyboard/mouse if that's cheaper

I do a lot of walking around and note-taking, planning and lots of organizing - usually with the classic pen and paper but need to upgrade soon. I also spend lots of time at the desk where I write, code, and do homework. Those small keyboards for the 2-in-1's look pretty uncomfortable for programming and long writing sessions, although I haven't really tried one one. Can the T100 handle programming and business applications?

Alternative - are there any POWERFUL tablets with 2+ USB ports for around $300-400? Surface pro or Acer Aspire seem like my best bet.

I don't mind the touch pad itself, the buttons are garbage though

T100TA. Pretty good now that kernel support for it is improving.

I've bought this glorious Chinese surface clone:
http://techtablets.com/cube-i7-stylus/review/
I think they actually used the Surface 2 screen/digitizer. Stylus works fine, and it's pretty fast. Keyboard dock is also quite good.
Gets a bit hot though, but the Core-M is actually really fast for a fanless chip
