I've seen a lot of these threads today, are you trying to summon that angry NEET shitposter for some kind of edgy satanic ritual?

using Win95 is actually kind of nice
there's a couple of neat little things I wish I knew back in the day (eg, putting a shortcut to Notepad in the SendTo folder, or putting shortcuts there in the first place, didn't fuck with anything in the Windows folder back then)
also, right-clicking the start menu to browse it in Explorer so I could use it as a nicer version of the Program Manager

shit's not stable at all though -- it's not going to just crash on you for no reason during general use, but if any program on your machine is unstable, and you run it, good fucking luck not needing to reboot from a freeze within the hour

there's also some odd compatibility issues that might crop up -- I had a program on Windows 3.1 that would append the current directory and the filename together when saving files (should have just set the current directory, but whatever)
on 3.1, the current directory didn't have a trailing \
on 95, it did
so you ended up with shit like d:\stuff\\file.dat or whatever when you tried to run the otherwise perfectly fine 16-bit program in 95

Input data via keyboard, process, output to screen/printer/disk. Pretty much standard computer stuff.

kind of miss mine, but I had to get rid of it when my family and I moved ages ago
gave it to my sister, who then gave it to someone else

used to play Marathon 2 on it and Nanosaur (was pretty bad at both)
and it had a copy of Photoshop 3 on it (it was a computer my dad's work friend got to take home after they upgraded, and then they gave it to my family), spent hours just fucking around with that shit
oh, and I remember running some Genesis emulator on it really slowly (it had a fast mode, but you'd get stuck in the slot machine when playing Sonic 2 and not using the compatibility mode)
kind of wish I still had the pictures I made, did all kind of trippy shit with filters

distinctly remember trying to install OSX (10.0 or 10.1) onto it at one point and getting nowhere, the CD would just thrash forever -- shit had 64MB RAM, dunno why I even attempted
And I remember attempting to install an old-ass version of Ubuntu on it -- I actually did finish the install, but never managed to get X to start, it spent two days as a framebuffer-only machine before I went back to OS9.

Man, I wonder what the hell you'd do with a 10MB HDD on one of these machines. The files you're working with/creating are in the dozen kilobyte range on average, unless you're storing some big-ass database on it and have several large software suites installed.
guess that's the big rub, it's pretty "futureproof," you'd never need to upgrade the disk, by the time shit was full, you probably dropped 2k on a new machine that's better on every single level

but still, even a mid/late-80s machine running Windows 2 wouldn't really need more than a 20MB HDD (about a third goes to Windows, biggest files you'll generally deal with are in the couple hundred kilobyte range, you might need a slightly bigger drive if you're doing really major print work with lots of graphics)

Hot damn. How did I not notice that?

always loved how cheap computers got compared to inflation over time

I miss when most computers were beige/white because then having a black case or keyboard or whatever felt a lot nicer.
