Is he right /g/?

lol why is louis posted to /g/ so much? just cuz he mentioned 4chan once or twice

Nice trips.

And because unlike LinusKekTips he actually knows what he's talking about (on a technical level) and isn't a complete shill.
>>
I thought more subscribers and sponsorship from Intel meant you knew everything.

It's easy to poke fun at Linus, but if someone put 28 SSDs in front of me to put in RAID 0 for fun... I can't say how I would react.

I did feel a little bad not recommending iFixit for anything after a $700+ microscope setup landed in my office with a card from them.

Louis said he doesn't post on 4chan.

Yeah yeah, I guess many people can be called hypocrites because they use botnet services but where do you start calling people hypocrites exactly? Because you can make the argument that everything on the net and computers is so compromised that even expecting a little bit of privacy when using mostly secure technology makes you a stupid hypocrite. This becomes just absurd.
There's also a clear difference between willingly using a service of a company and losing some privacy through them and a state agency doing everything they can to forcefully infiltrate you and get your data which would be a criminal act for every normal person out there.
So calling someone a hypocrite because they condemn the doings of the NSA but don't strive for 100% perfect privacy is retarded. It's not hypocritical to be against the NSA's doings while trading away some privacy to which you consent.
>>
>>51854409
>but where do you start calling people hypocrites exactly?
Where they happily give their private information to a company for commercial purposes and complain when the goberment intercepts the same information for national security purposes.
The NSA isn't doing everything it can to forcefully infiltrate you and get your data so I don't know where that is coming from.
>>
What kind of mic does this guy use?
>>
>>51854498
No, that's exactly the absurd argument I was talking about. Drawing the line there means that because everything you could possibly do, whether on the internet or not, no matter how careful you are, could somehow compromise your privacy and would make you hypocrite, that's bullshit. The NSA is trying to gobble up as much data as they can, don't try to deny this. They actively try to create security holes and use them to gain access to private data.
>>
>>51854323
There was a video where he flat out said he lurked when he was a teen, the comments where fun.
>>
>>51854606
He made a video on it a few days ago
>>
>>51854759
Looks like he changed the pop filter and the mic changed to black. IDK if it is the same thing but thanks.
>>
Any time a fa/g/ starts blowing up about privacy or botnets or whatever I just ask if they own a smartphone. They always do. Their opinion immediately becomes irrelevant.
>>
>>51855088
Do you mean phone in general as a tracking device or specific smartphone cuz iOS and android? Cuz, you know, ROMs and shit...
>>
>For all of you people who always valued your privacy, who always did the research to make sure that the services and products you are using valued and protected your privacy, by all means pick up your pitchforks and say what the NSA is doing is wrong. I will stand there with you. I will happily stand there with you because you're not a hypocrite.
- him
Now what means "protected your privacy" and doing the research right. There's no absolute value there, so when does the decision to give away some privacy become hypocritical? That's the real point to argue about and it won't be very clear.

And he specifically talks about people using gmail for example or people willingly giving data to ad companies like google, not every company is like that of course or resides in the US.

What if I need to go to the doctor and make a phone call? Do I suddenly lose the right to criticise the NSA because I made that call which made me a hypocrite?
See what I'm talking about. You can make this argument to be very absurd so that literally anything makes you a hypocrite no matter how careful you try to be.

>>51855088
like you. Don't try to be smug.
If someone uses the best open source custom ROM and uses encrypted messengers etc. this is a serious effort to protect one's privacy. Of course you won't reach the levels we wish for but calling someone a hypocrite is meaningless if you apply such a loose standard like above and it's especially questionable to call someone a hypocrite when they are actively combatting the invasion of their privacy.

Whoa, nice shilling you kike.
The problem is that you don't have to use a propietary service such as Gmail to be tracked on the Internet, so your logic is flawed.
I do use Gmail and I accept what they do, but what I don't accept (and no one for that matter) is that all that data falls into other hands, and that's what happening everyfuckingwhere (not only in my Gmail).
It's such a pathetic attempt at guilt tripping, JEW/10 would not approve.

Honestly, I do use gmail, and I am not a fan of much of what the NSA has done. The video was inspired while sitting at some internet cafe for lunch listening to a bunch of millennials with that "LIEK OMG" accent scream about the NSA while one of them was loading financial records as they carried on a discussion of their "business" finances while discussing the NSA, on unsecured wifi.

I'm not a supporter of much of what the NSA has done. A lot of it freaks me the fuck out. I respect people who are genuinely concerned, who thought and cared about this as an issue before it was frontpage news, before it became a trending topic on some social media website. I can understand and respect their viewpoints and opinions.

However, a lot of people do not care about privacy one bit until it is cool to, until it is in the news, until there is one primary villain people can unify in hating. To these people, it is not about the cause. It is about having something to do, it's a question of whether it's movie night or protest night. To them it's all the same.

Take the Occupy Wall Street movement, for instance. You had people who truly believed in the cause, who were well researched who actually cared. Then you had the people who would show up and go "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! OCCUPY WALL STREET" They'd tweet selfies of them occupying wall street. Then they'd go "YEAAAAAAAAAAH, OCCUPYIN' THIS BAR!!!" 20 minutes later. Then you'd have the people who go "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I'M ABOUT TO OCCUPY THIS BARTENDER!!!" and you'd see a picture of him failing in his flirts with the bartender. The former I can respect, the latter I can't. You're not about jack shit, you're about it when it's trendy and cool and tomorrow your zest for your "cause" will be gone.
>>
>>51860234
Off-topic comment: I really enjoy your videos as I find them very soothing (the ones were you fix shit)

Cheers for that.

You are speaking with the assumption that everybody has a Google account, which is not quite true. Yes, there are hypocrites and people who do it because it's cool to be anonymooze Elliot haxor but not everybody is like that. I believe most people in /g/ are not those haxors, because whatever they preach and speak out loud is not, easy to say, cool. Whenever I speak about ditching Windows and stuff like that, people just look at me like I am a massive nerd.

He looks like a dud. If I wanted to learn about spying I wouldn't listen to some egotistical dud who thinks the NSA would waste their time spying on him, I would go an ask a real spy for some country. Or I would read a book on it.
>>
>>51853657
Is he really that retarded that he doesn't see the difference between gmail and the NSA? GMail has an End User agreement that you have to agree to when you decide you want their services. You are exchanging your data for their services in a way that is spelled out for you and completely optional.

The United States government has an End User agreement as well. It is called the US Constitution. It says that unless you consent to a search or seizure the government can't perform a search or a seizure without a warrant.

It's all about EULA and as Americans we should really read our governments EULA.
>>
>>51860596
I rate your bait 8/10. Keep up, you're doing a great job.
>>
>>51860598
The end user agreement says that Google can do whatever they want with your emails. By your logic, there is no problem for them to send the emails to NSA.

Yeah, there are people like that, but I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of people who consider themselves privacy advocates actually aren't hypocrites. If anything, I more commonly see privacy advocates lambast normies FOR EXACTLY THE REASONS you said make people hypocrites: the fact that they see convenience as more important than privacy.

If anything, all the winfags and shit (at least the ones that come here, and the ones that I have anecdotal experience with in meatspace) actually DON'T care about privacy, even when I bring it up for them. Even when I bring up things such as how Microkek goes and keylogs literally every thing you type in and speak in to your computer for fuck knows what reason, they just go "NOTHIN TO HIDE, SO I DON'T CARE! FREETARDS BTFO!"

Furthermore, the reason why NSA spying is so particularly scary is because the NSA has access to the collective data stores of all these big companies that mine data, allowing them to glean more information about any individual's personal life than any single corporation ever could. This is compounded by the fact that the NSA has the direct authority to just step into your life and fuck you in the ass if they feel like it, which corporations cannot nearly as easily do. I think that even if you are some fag who complains about "muh privacy" while using Windows, Chrome, Skype, etc, and whatever other botnets are out there actually do in some way have something special to fear about the NSA that they do not have to fear about other corporations.
>>

It's not bait, if you want to learn about spying then you talk to a spy, or read a book made by a spy. This guy is not certified to teach anything related to spying, which is a time honored institution. Spying has been going on forever, and now you are telling me that I got to LISTEN TO SOME DUD WHINE ABOUT GMAIL? All those dead spies from the past are rolling over in their graves.
>>
>>51860675
Yes, definitely a bait.

Are you from 1950s? Cold war is over. Stop watching your silly documentaries. There is no reason to be in other countries any more. Just hire bunch of nerds and capture the internet traffic.
>>
>>51860814
No not really. It's not like they are marksmen or anything. Places like Israel in particular will train people and send them to other counties. It is said that Israel has the most spies in the USA than any other ally of the US.

>>51860836
See above. Spies are real you know. They don't do any cool action movie stuff, they just do their best to access the situation, and with enough spies in a country you can get a pretty clear idea of what's going on there.
>>
>>51853657
yea. notice how most of the so called privacy advocates are so called civil rights groups which end up, if you go back far enough, are left leaning socialist groups with ties to foreign governments or movements such as terrorists who have a vested interest in not being spied upon by the government they are actively trying to undermine?
>>
>>51860234
I doubt you're still lurkin/monitoring this thread but I just wanted to say you're a pretty stand up guy and I enjoy the stuff you do, hopefully the public will eventually be capable and have the capacity to discuss/understand just how important matters like internet privacy are but for now we continue to struggle, keep on keeping on

>>51861894
Did you also notice how it is always kids, who have googled about some boring subject(spies in this case) and are trying look smart arguing about it?

I have noticed it.

I don't give a fuck about spies. His initial argument that "spies" should confirm that the government is reading our emails is dumb and that's the important thing here, not the existence of spies.

Now, he is a kid who likes reading about spy stories and thinks that black suited men are sitting in NSA and reading your emails while the reality is different.
>>
>>51853657
I disagree with him to a degree. The government has much more power to fuck you up if they decide you're doing something they don't like. Not that those concerns are really valid for most people (you're most likely not doing anything important enough to have to worry about shit like that), but Google looking to sell you shit through their ads and the government "protecting" you aren't quite the same thing. The government doesn't give a fuck about me personally, that means both that they probably don't care what I do on the internet as an average joe, but they also don't really give a fuck about protecting me from anything.
>>
His arguments are retarded

He uses that "the people before me were retarded and it's all over so i don't have to do anything" argument like most politicians use all the time

So, no, mail users back then were just as retarded as people are now, no one sat at their table thinking "do i use gmail or do i value my privacy"

corporations do this shit all the time now, they give you something cool but they take little privacy from you, wait some time until everyone accepts and repeat. So people who choose privacy are labeled as weirdos
>>
>>51861974
Nice projecting there. If you were older you might recognize that I am speaking from years of attained knowledge. Anyone who has been alive for a good amount of years and keeps updated on the happenings of the world knows what spies are. And if you are well read then you most certainly know about politics. Instead your own lack of experience leads you to believe that I am a simple kid looking to appear smart.

But those are your perceptions, and they are wrong. Your perceptions are what you believe. Do you not support the truth though? Do you never think, perhaps you were wrong about something? That is the only way to fine the truth. The fact is, you don't know who I am (don't deny it, that is a fact, not a claim). Let me give you some advice, don't take your perceptions as the truth. It will be your downfall if ever there is to be one for you. You are in error because of your perceptions. You do not support the truth. Not wise at all, very unwise.

I don't think this needs to continue anymore. Your perceptions are of no significance to me. And I got what I needed out. And anyone reading would see that you were in error when you said that there were no such things as spies. Which is grossly wrong, and shocking how someone could say that with such conviction. Very shocking, and such a simple google search would tell you otherwise. Let me tell you, you don't have to be a genius to know what a spy is and that they exist. It is sad that you made such a simple error.
