the timestamp is the current time, and the 3-character thing is just an indicator of which machine I'm on. In practice I actually have like 5 machines whose prompts I use, and some of them share the same .zshrc file through github and I didn't want to deal with branching and merging and shit, so I just have the script figure this shit out.
my retina mbp has the same look, but it says "mbp" instead.
