Peter Sunde gives the fight for Internet freedom
>Well, I have given up the idea that we can win this fight for the internet.

Why are we so lazy?

He's right. The current public client/server network that most people call the "Internet" is dead and not worth saving.

IPFS, Maidsafe, Freenet, and a bunch of other
content-decentralized serverless networks will be the future, and that's where dev work needs to refocus.

First we state the internet is not a space where the governament can rule.
Second we state that the servers and their contents are the property of who owns it and no one else.
Thirdly ANY content and by ANY I mean ALL of it that is online paywall protected or not is provided AS IS and if shared thats not the users problem is the providers in both legal and all other platforms.
And Finally we must educate ALL users that the internet is as dangerous as it was in the 90's where no one was allowed to post info unless you ran a buissness.

I was avoiding reading that article because I thought it would be really depressing, but he actually validated a lot of stuff I've been thinking about lately.

Then again, he's way too butthurt over having had to serve 1 year in a swedish hotel prison resort. It could have been worse for him.

Posting because although I have a very low of knoledge about /g/ topics, it really really makes me sad all that kinds of things came to this point.

Yeah, I'm expecting a lot of "you retard" and that kind of shit, but whatever.

We came to a point when choosing the information that you want to share with everything (people, companies, and machines) is wrong.

You choose encryptation? Well, nice to you, but probably the way you're choosing have some backdoors "just in case" something or someone from above need to know what you choose to hide.

You choose being an anonymous being? Well, that's nice, but we will track you to your places "just in case" we need to know you're someone who won't represent a threat to that someone.

My english is bad, my knoledge is low, but I'm sure what I'm trying to say. It is just really sad that that kind of choose, decisions and chances are considered "wrong" by the people who can't get profit of it.

I don't know what to add more. For example, I always wanted to host a non-exit relay of TOR, just because I think it would help people and it requires zero effort from me, and because of Paris thing, I could be tracked to my house "just in case" I'm a terrorist, instead on having some kind of processes to check that kind of things.

This will be 404 an/or flammed, but whatever. Thanks for reading.

he hasnt been involved with pirate bay for a while.

The basic problem is infrastructure though. We have no infrastructure besides the one set up by the government / researchers and given to the isps. There's only a finite amount of frequencies and wavelengths too.

Another problem is legislation. Under tpp vpns will cease to exist and isps will be held accountable for your actions.

The only solution is obscurity. meshnets, ad-hoc, i2p, tor, namecoin. stuff like this. As well as encryption like pgp / otr

how to save it? support groups that fight for individual liberties and ask your congress reps to overturn tpp while it's still being considered

IIRC, the NSA can read 10% of all the internet traffic. if we assume that the other 90% is videos... the NSA can practically read ALL our (meaningful) internet communications. how are we not fucked?

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

love this part:
>according to the marketing done by people like Mark Zuckerberg and companies like Google, it's all to help with the open network and to spread democracy, and so on. At the same time, they are capitalistic monopolies. So it’s like trusting the enemy to do the good deeds. It is really bizarre.

This is not about what I suggest. Ask the guy calling you all lazy peons. Just keep in mind he will respond by also being a lazy peon.

>have you tried doing something about it? how was your experience, and how did it end?

I am not the one criticizing people for some vaguely defined inaction while also hypocritically advocating inaction. I was expressing my frustration with Sweede McFaggot for doing that. Computer networks are not something I am concerned with "losing" any time soon.
