I'd just like to verify with people who've done this before that I've not fucked anything up too badly. I already have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor. Any serious suggestions for improvement are appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

>$700 for a fucking quad core

Just get a i7-4790K.

Or, if you want to keep it around that price range, get a i7-5820K / i7-5930K (2 more cores).
>>
>>51843692
>>51843911
That price is grossly inflated. I'm getting it from another source for ~$375.
Couldn't figure out how to edit that in the list.

How will the 4460 be holding up in two years time? GTA V on ultra settings has 95% CPU load on 4460 I think.

Alright, I guess I'll switch the 4690k out for the 4460 and the 380x for the 390. Will my PSU be able to keep up with the 390 at full load?

Not OP, but, I'm currently going towards a value orientated build + future expansion.

How'd I do?

>>51845168
Since the S12II is non-modular, it can get quite tricky to use in a case like the 200R.

My 2/4 of my Pro4s RAM slots suddenly stopped working so I'm stuck on single channel. Negligible performance difference aside is there a better motherboard for the price? Outside of that, how's my build?

Get a 5820k or a 4790k, there's no point in paying 5820k prices for a cpu with performance better than the 4790k by %5 percent

Why this cooler so expensive?
>>
>>51845864
That's a damn good build. I use that cooler on the 4690k in my server and i've never seen it go over 60c.
>>
>>51845913
Because the CPU runs about 6-7 degrees cooler under heavy load compared to Evo 212.
About 40 USD difference in my country.

Any advice on a build for playing games, but without all the overclocking mumbo jumbo?

I see. I know shit about PC parts, so yeah. Just noticed the price difference.
>>
>>51843692
You might as well get a liquid cpu cooler at this price range.

With help of some anon, I've picked these parts for upgrading my PC.
How sad am I?
>>
>>51846266
No idea, what you're upgrading too, but if you're going to get a 380x you might as well get a k-series CPU and compatible motherboard. Don't fall for the Corsair meme and get better fans. AF/SP 120s are very loud to get their rated CFM. The R5 has 140mm slots. Get some Cougar 140mm fans. I have 3 AF140s and those things have horrible airflow compared to the Cougars. I'm glad I swapped them out. I'm a bit of a fan addict, but stock fans for any case are crap.

>No idea, what you're upgrading too, but if you're going to get a 380x you might as well get a k-series CPU and compatible motherboard
I have a dead system with some RAM, SSD, HDD and PSU left over from it. 3GB Caviar Green, OCZ 64GB SSD, 8GB dual stick RAM and 600W PSU by Chieftek. So I want to play some games and that is all.
K-Series CPU is for people who like to overclock things, if I'm not mistaken. I do not want to do that. I can get r9 380 version, I just don't know the difference between them, and as I mentioned, anon helped me with the GPU.

Please advise.
>>
>>51846481
X versions of AMD cards are effectively higher clocked versions. If you don't like to overclock then stick with the 380x. My comment was about your weak CPU compared to the fairly good GPU. There's nothing wrong with the 380x.

Overall your system isn't bad. I'm not sure what resolution/graphic settings you plan to game at, but outside getting 120mm fans when your case can use 140mm (more airflow, less noise) it's a solid build. I only recommended the K-series for longevity.
>>
This entire thread is telling OP to invest into a dead socket, WHY, just go 1151, considering kabylake and cannonlake will most likely use 1151 sockets.
>>
>>51846611
Well, the thing is, I am on a budget. While the budget itself is around one thousand euro, I wish to spend on this upgrade as little as possible. And 4460 should be sufficient to play latest games on 1080 (not looking on running anything higher). If you would be so kind and advise a substitute CPU, I'd gladly see if it can be acquired.

As for your advice on the fans - thank you. This is useful to know! 140mm fans I'll look into.
>>
>>51846611
>Cougar 140mm
Also, they don't sell Cougar fans anywhere where I live. So yeah.
>>
Critique this, anons:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GCpVxr

I already have the Quadro, in case you're wondering.
>>
>>51846673
I actually own a 4460, I swapped it out for a 4690k and overclocked it to 4.4ghz while keeping the temp around the same as stock. The 4460 is probably the best non K-series i5 you can buy for the money. There's just a reason people with old 2500k's are still using the card, they can OC the card to keep up with the newer ones. Generally speaking. The Pro4 I got was 100 USD not on sale, but if you're on a budget that's up for you to decide if you want to take the additional plunge for a z97 board and a k-series. Just don't make the same mistake I did and have to upgrade your stuff a year or so later because you wanted to be 'cheap' now.

The Define S is also a bit cheaper than the R5 due to the lack of HDD slots. If you have only 2-3 drives that may be an option.

>>51846760
Fair enough, but don't get Corsair. They aren't worth the price. There's plenty of 140mm fans that do better. You just pay the price of Corsair's name brand. I also own a SP120 and the thing is really loud. The CM 140mm I have has pretty decent CFM and is very quiet at 100% fan speed.
>>
>>51846824
Thanks for all the information.
I am too chickenshit to overclock things.
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CnMMzy

be gentle.
>>
>>51847083
Well it's certainly a lot of bang for the buck. I had that mouse and the scroll wheel died after a few months.
>>
>>51847083
If you remove some HDD cages you should have room for the Powercolor or Sapphire 390. They are objectively better than the MSI one and the PC one is 2.5 slots like the MSI one too. PC is actually 309 before rebate too. Also the MSI backplate creates some heat issues according to a few reviews.
>>
>>51847083
as this guy said >>51847167
get a Sapphire, where i live its even cheaper than MSI, other than that, its good
>>
What would be considered a quiet and with good airflow case?
>>
>>51844510
nothing wrong with a 212 EVO, he should probably go for a cryorig h5 universal at that price range though, but no more than that
>>
I can have the Haswell i7 platform for the same price as the i5 Skylake.

>Skylake
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/hGFYvK

> Haswell
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/T3tr4D
>>
>>51847298
I have the Define S and it's awesome. 8-9 (windowed version doesn't have a side fan spot) 120-140mm fan spaces, no HDD cages blocking airflow and it has the "moduvent" system, which is basically covers for whichever top vents you don't use. It's functionally the same at the R5 without the cages.
>>
>>51847357
It is a bit cheaper than r5
around 30 euro
>>
>>51847353
Then get the i7. There's no reason to get a weaker CPU for pretty much the same price. Even if you don't use HT now, for sure you won't be able to use it with the i5.

>>51847397
It's because of the cages. You can have more hard drives in the R5. I use 2 1TB drives and I still have space for 3 SDDs if I want them. I'm not starving for space in the Define S.
>>
>>51847357
Oh fuck. Why am I so shit at this?
H97 mobo from>>51846266 will not work with 4690K? So now I need to figure out which motherboard should I get to get something out that K in the CPU name.
This is hard.
>>
>>51847443
That's why I said
>you might as well get a k-series CPU and compatible motherboard.
z97 is what you need. Really you just need to look at fan headers and color outside of the price.
>>
>>51847498
What to choose? There are like hundreds of different brands and builds and what not.
I need to narrow it down a bit at least.

MB H97 S1150 MATX/GA-H97M-HD3 V1.1 GIGABYTE
This any good?
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8BjbmG

If you can get the i7 cheaper do so but good lord never pay 700 bucks for a quad core.
>>
>>51847498
Or this one

ASUS H97-PRO, H97, DualDDR3-1600, SATA3, RAID, HDMI, DVI, D-Sub, ATX
>>
>>51847554
H97 will not work. You need Z97 if you want a k-series. Look at the number fan headers, PCIE slots and color. Or just buy the most popular model in your price point.
>>
>>51847602

ASUS Z97M-PLUS, Z97, DualDDR3-1600, SATA3, RAID, HDMI, DVI, D-Sub, mATX
How many PCIE slots do I need? What about color?
>>
>>51847628
How many PCIE slots do I need?
Did you not do any research on what you even need PCIE slots for? How am I supposed to tell you what color you want for your build, if anything specific?

Just pick a price point and find the board that has the best/most reviews at the price, look up a few reviews for that board and then make your purchase if you like what they say.
>>
>>51847668
No. I didn't do any research on PCIE at all.
As far as color of my build goes - I don't care? It is insides of the PC case, which I don't really show off to the world anyways.
>>
>>51843692
Well that was helpful. If someone could legitimately tell me that there's nothing horribly wrong with the build that'd be great. All the feedback I got was critisizing my cpu choice, so I'll have to reevaluate that, but other feedback would be nice.
>>
>>51849360

Compare this one with yours:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7mBy6h

Should be cheaper, and have the same performance costing less.
