Also, so much dev time is being wasted on rubbish. Budgie could be very well be a gnome extension, same goes about cinnamon is well

In general, linux could be great if all them devs got to work on only few decent distros like fedora (aka redhat test ground), and backing technology, drivers and so on.

Linux is shit cuz it is too chaotic, too fragmented; too much freedom is bad too.

Nice, do you have an RSS feed? Where can I subscribe?

Why is it meaningless? This project is exactly what Linux needs right now.

If I'm not mistaken, the Solus Project philosophy is rather distinct from the mainstream Linux distros and it would, instead, be more sensible and beneficial to accept that.

I am looking forward to papyros http://papyros.io

In what way is it distinct?

Nah. Time to make distro #567821 that attempts to make a really really good looking ui.

What I want to know is why there isn't a distro project that takes a clean *nix (Debian, FreeBSD, whatever) and starts from scratch to build the entire userland as a single unified piece made up of extremely efficient, lightweight components. Resource usage for any reasonably friendly *nix desktop environment is several times higher and performance way lower than it rightfully should be because the developers of all the individual components are on entirely different pages optimizing for entirely different things.

All of these distros that are your typical Ubuntu/GNOME/etc spins are damn near pointless.

What is STALI?

What is stali?

Ok, moving on

Definitely a good start and a direction that should be pursued, even if tiling WMs aren't my thing. Its "doing one thing really well" deal is another philosophy that you don't see that often these days.

This is the sort of project that is actually worthy of its own distribution. Wish there were more like it.

Why is that awful? Sure, I'd love ARM/ARM64, SPARC, etc support, but most people run on x86_64 (at least on the desktop). The one guy that installed Libreboot on his C201 isn't going to be using stali, he's going to use Debian, Ubuntu or Arch.

They link a few more on the page, like Morpheus, Starch, and Bifrost. I just wish more distros in general were built on musl.
