not really. 170 quid into usd is 250. Do you live in one of the areas where GPU's are wildly expensive? Here is us, 970's are ~290$, and there is no comparison between a 770 and 970.
Honestly, the only reason to buy a 770 now is because you got a killer deal on a used one, like 80 quid. Otherwise, it is not a very good option.

A 770 is a hell of an upgrade from a 6870, but the 770 is sort of in an odd place price wise, it is priced very high considering its performance. You could have gotten a used GTX680, which is the same card, for like 100 quid if you look in the right place.

If 170 quids is a huge amount to you, buying a "meh" card right now for cheap is a good idea. Pascal is supposed to be a huge jump, waiting on 10xx or 11xx vs selling out on a 980/ti is a great move.

It's still a horrible price for that card no matter what way you want to spin it. Kepler is a fucking disaster in newer games. I regret purchasing that 780, even though it has 970 performance on paper (and in older games) once overclocked. Literally all the games I'm playing at the moment, namely Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Ass Creed: Syndicate run like ass, even with a heavy overclock to 1202MHz.
I only bought it as a holdover until next year and I'm counting the fucking days. Still regret selling my 290X earlier in the year.
