In regards to the Windows 10 update, I think that's the opposite of incompetent. The windows.old folder is on a 30 days grace period, that's how they're able to downgrade you straight back to where you came from. It not only serves as a downgrade option, but as a failsafe too should the Windows 10 installation itself go wrong.
I'm not saying "be grateful you only have 10MB left", but I'm saying "be grateful you don't lose all of your data should the installation crash".
