About to buy a 970 GTX. What's the best brand? Gigabyte? Asus?

Also, where's the GPU thread when you need one?

Why would you do this?

Not OP but I'm gonna buy one soon. I only care for actual, measured vidya performance when I'm buying a vidya card, not about the fucking numbers on the box.

Wow, you just threw it in? You can't be this obvious with bait. Go practice trolling on /v/ before coming here. 0/10.
>>
>>51825950
Yeah, but I will buy that card fully knowing about these pitfalls, while at the same time fully knowing that there's no better choice at that price point.
>>
>>51826007
Love the buzzing sound from my MSI 970.

Never going to buy another nvidia card

>>
>>51825349
The Sapphire 390 ones are pretty good.
>>
>>51827072
Why is it so critical that you get a card RIGHT NOW? There's gotta be some serious shit going on if you fully know the pitfalls but are still willing to get a broken card instead of waiting for a better choice.
>>
>>51827072

desu 970 is very overpriced, still like $300+ in the US. Horrible value. Unless you can get a good deal just get a 390.. how much? For $300 you can buy an r9 390... I'd buy the 970 if you can get it for <$200 tho, would be a decent junker 1080p card.
>>
>>51827779
>still like $300+ in the US.
I paid $230 for mine and I have yet to encounter a game that will hit 3.5 at 1440p.

Sorry you had to buy a 1kW PSU for your shit drivers.

>>
>>51827910
the difference would be like 100w...

Even before 3.5GB vram, the performance value is not great at retail, I agree $230 is a more reasonable price. Personally, I'd still rather pay the extra $80 or so for a 390, just because its much more future proof. the 900 series is going to age even worse than the 700 series.

But if you don't mind buying a new card in 8-12 moths, a $230 970 was a pretty good deal.
>>
>>51827910
Yeah 230 is what I paid for mine as well. $330 is outrageous.
>>
>>51825407
You know there is a 980
>>
>>51827910
>>51828272
Where the fuck did you guys find a 970 for $230? Which brand are you getting? In looking at pcpartpicker and it doesn't even dip below $300
>>
>>51828746
The are probably buying used from people stupid enough to buy a gimped gpu for $300.
>>
>>51827569
what do u recommend me to do? i was also going to buy a 960 or 970 in january (but sceptical about it because you know, high risk of getting a defective one because christmas)
so what should i do? been like 3 years alone with my intel hd 3000, managed to survive with that, playing with low res or even not playing, my list of games to play gets bigger and bigger ;(
>>
>>51828746
I got mine from bhphotovideo used. My bro got his from there as well for 250 new.
EVGA b-stock is where people get cards for cheap.

Evga 970 hybrid end of debate
>>
Brand of GPU doesn't matter at this point. Its a 970... What is even the point? Just get a 390.

Unless you're buying a $600 card don't even bother looking at nvidia. Anything less than a 980 and you're just paying a logo tax on a high margin, neutered card engineered to be inferior to its competitors.

so if im not a very demanding gamer, and i want to have some graphic card until pascal arrives, what should i buy? something for 150-200$?

960

>>
>>51830216
r9 380 for $140
>>
>>51830257

the 960 is overpriced as fuck. nvidia's "budget" cards, for one are still expensive as fuck, and two are just cash cow overpriced PoSs to fund the flagship card.
>>
so what should i do
>>
>>51830315
Not listen to /g/ would be a good start.
>>
EVGA baby
>>
>>51830355
the question is very short and simple ;(
whatever, suppose im just going for an amd 200$ or even 150$, im just going to look at benchmark of the games im going to play
>>
>>51827072
>knowing that there's no better choice at that price point

The 390 is objectively a better card though. It beats the 970 in every metric, from game performance to raw numbers. There's literally no way to justify purchasing a 970 beyond being a brand whore. That's fine, but at least be honest with yourself and don't try and rationalize it as "muh smart purchase based on objectivity".
>>
MSI in EU (store warranty) Gigabyte in factory warranty countries.

MSI is better alround noise/temp/performance.
Gigabyte oc's the highest.
EVGA is fine too but too many models.
>>
>>51830382

Best value go for a 380 around $150, you could buy a 285 for just over $200, or a 280x. I don't think its as good value tho.

Wait for Pascal
>>
>>51830616
This.

I don't know why people are rushing to buy EOL gimped cards with 2 years old tech, when they are about to drop new architecture.
>>
>>51825407
>not buying ati because he had bad experiences once
>buying a product he already knows is defective instead
>>
>>51827072
But anon you can buy a 390, a card with better performance at the same price, and it isn't broken
>>
>>51829762
Not go nvidia
For your price point AMD makes the most sense, nvidia is only good for the $400+ prices.
Or just do the wait for Pascal meme
>>
well, when would nvidia drop thier new line....and after that what would be that sweet spot for a 980?

also OP, keep an eye on Evga b-stock. Wish other companies did a b-stock but eh.
>>
>tfw nvidia makes shitty product now but theres no competition

baka desu senpai
>>
>>51835573

funny i don't remember ther where bench marcks for the superclocked gigabyte or Msi 380 4gb

I only see the 285 2gb and 380 2gb on the old CCC
>butthurt Nvidia c.ucks.

If Op is going for the Dx11.5 970 then its EVA FTW version
honestly R9 390 should be number one because of DX12 native support.

But to be brutally honest your games should dictate what you buy.
