What are some cool things to do with a vps server /g/? I have a cheap one with 2 gb ram, 25 gb storage and one cpu core.
Also, general vps thread I guess

I've been thinking about using it as a seedbox, although I don't torrent much. I could probably try out syncthing too as it seems like a nice way of syncing files between machines without having to use "cloud"

why would you 'have' one if you dont even know what to do with it? you are a fucking moron and this thread is a joke

install OpenVPN and use it to encrypt your connection when using a foreign network.
install OwnCloud and run a free(dom) alternative to dropbox. though 25gb isn't much.
install a webserver and host your personal website or forum
install IRC or XMPP server and chat securely with your friends.
be a part of the TOR network if you're feeling generous
help seed or host open source software and linux distros if you have no bandwidth limitations
use it as a git/mercurial server if you're a dev.

Its tunneling TCP-over-DNS. Useful when you connect to a wifi hotspot that has a splash/portal page. Most of those wifi hotspots block/redirect all traffic except for DNS queries. So by setting up a iodine server on port 53 and configuring your DNS correctly you can make a tunnel to your server without having to accept the terms/login to whatever splash page.
What it does is make tunnel similar to a VPN
Not sure where u from but one of the cellphone companies has a 3g usb modem with pay-as-you-go data. Once it expires all traffic gets redirected to the cellphone company's where you can purchase more data. However DNS doesn't get redirected, and by using Iodine you can get free interbutts by tunneling through all their shit.

A hypervisor inside a hypervisor.

well this is fucking genius

Is OpenVPN completely free, their website talks something about being limited to 2 connections. It's not a huge problem really, but I'd prefer something completely free.
I don't have any bandwidth limits but the 25 gb storage definitely limits seeding. I can upgrade it to a plan with more ram, storage and cores because my host provides muh scalability, but it of course costs quite a bit.
I don't really know about tor, I personally don't use it and half the nodes are probably owned by nsa so it's not that secure.

OpenVPN Access Server (licensed software) is just an installer/configuration manager. you can install OpenVPN Server (GPL software) manually or find another free installer.
