So /g/, please tell me what makes the 1280x1024 monitors attractive ?

It's a monitor and fulfils more of a role than you,OP.

They're not. 4:3 is cancer. Any movie or media is 16:9 these days. Working on spreadsheets on my 21:9 is so cash.
Only to japs because as far as personal computing goes they still use WindowsME
They are super cheap at fleamarkets. I have not bought a brand new monitor since CRT days.

OP, It depends on your usage.
I prefer 4:3 and 3:2 since all i do is read papers and articles related to my studies, so i prefer a small device that i can bring along with me everywhere while being good to read papers on.
>Pic related is: 4:3 - 16:9 - 3:2

This.
Why buy premium, quality food when you can just dumpsterdive?
4:3 feels better for old school FPS, that's about it.
>>51820919
it's 5:4
>>51820919
16:9 and all the extra wide trend is pure excrement. The only 16:9 I use is the one on my laptop because I have no other choice. When I come home, I plug in my 4:3.
Also, OP's pic is not 4:3 you degenerated weeb.

This format has been out there for a long time and is still present in today tech shops. My question is to know what purpose this format serves the best
>>51821013
Yeah, vertical 4:3 is bretty neat to read as it is the same shape as a4 books.
>>51821052
not 4:3 tho
16:9 and other widescreen stuff is only useful for watching movies. For web browsing, document creation and pretty much all other computer work, a taller display is better.
I own MG279Q 16:9 display I wanted to get a 16:10 but couldn't find a good one with 144hz for gaymeen
>>51821095
The advantage of 16:9 is that because there are so many more screens in that aspect ratio produced they tend to be cheaper. With laptops its a plague, but on desktops you can almost always go larger and higher resolution with 16:9 for the money than you can 4:3 or 16:10, or 21:9.
That's why I have a 40" 4k monitor. Whatever problems may exist with the aspect ratio on small screens vanish once you get a display that's tall enough and wide enough

They are, but the average japanese households are still using XP machines. PC's as a market in japan is basically stuck in a decade ago.
>>51821247
Japan isn't behind though, they're actually a bit ahead of the curve there as they're largely abandoning the Windows platform.

For? Phones and trendy macs with slightly better font rendering and a more than slightly worse IME.
>>51820752
You can use them to watch The Assassin.
>>51820752
PAL video editing?

Why would it require this format?
