How far away are we from having eye wear that replaces glasses?

Like a miniature oculus that augments your eyesight in real time.

People wouldn't need to buy new glasses when their prescription changes, instead they could just change some settings.

25 years

a brain-chip is more likely

Sure they do anon

Lmfao this
Why would anybody invest in brain augmentations and other high tech shit when we've literally had a simple alternative to glasses for decades
>>
>>what is laser eye surgery
>>
>>51814421
It could be even better, zooming, thermal or similar night vision capability.
>>
>>51814347
my glass protect my eyes from stuff.

>>51814465
OK, that would be sick.

Haha no

No anon, they just make you look weaker than you already are.

Hey guys remember Google Glass?

Me neither
>>
>horn rimmed glasses
why oh why
>>
>>51814402
you still need new prescriptions and couldn't change in real time
>>
>>51814456
so how would you do that with something that wouldn't look like glasses?
>>51814491
well they permit me to enter a machine shop without wearing goofy goggles.

?

so?

OP, this is actually one of the best visionary ideas I've seen on /g/ in a while (pun intended). Advanced ground-based telescopes are using dynamic lenses to compensate for atmospheric distortions, so it seems that technology might be able to do the same thing on a smaller scale at some point. I think it is a valid question to ask.
>>
>>51814570
that's the point of the OP, changing on the fly without needing to get new lenses. Although even beyond the difficulty of making the technology needed to make lenses that can change on the fly for your glasses, you'd need magic to be able to diagnose and optimize the proper prescription for you to see as best as possible without just giving you the reigns and opening the door for placebo to come marching in and make you think you can see better than you actually do

that would be mirrors m8.

>implying that'll ever happen
You can just pick up your new pack with your new prescription. Contacts are mostly sold in packs that last 3 months. So unless you change every month, you won't have to spend that much more. And it's cheaper than glasses actually. I get my contacts for €40 for 3 months + desinfecting water €10 = 50 for 3 months, comes out on €200 per year. A decent frame + glasses would cost around €500. So 2,5 years of contacts equals a pair of glasses. Let's say you get a new pair every 2 years, that'd mean you pay €100 more than you'd pay if you used contacts during those 2 years.

adjustable lenses exist. Pic related
>>
>>51814623
that's the point of the OP

I'm not arguing that contacts are obsolete or anything. I'm saying that the existence of contacts does not render the point OP raised moot.
>>
>>51814701
Op asks for self adjusting lenses you never have to take out. Op probably fell on his head one too many times. We can make a lot of awesome shit. But that is just plain dark magic territory right there.
>>
>>51814629
Brain already compensates for considerable lag in the vision systems, so I'm sure it could compensate a little more.

Are you an ape that breaks his things constantly or a woman who replaces perfectly functional things based on looks?

A man that changes phones every year. Doesn't need to break for, I just like new stuff. I literally change shit just to change shit.
