why has no laptop manufacturer came up with the idea of basically selling empty laptop cases with just a motherboard that would allow you to buy cpu of your own choose for the socket, ram, hhd/ssd, etc?
>>
>>51811464

This was a thing like over 10 years ago, you could buy laptop components. Like, even a case and shit.

>>51811464

because it would be thick, heavy, overheat, and have shit battery life, and a shit screen
>>
>>51811464
cost.
>>
>>51811498
Please anon, a manufacturer could easily sell you a thin laptop with a custom designed motherboard to fit and battery packs that comes with the heatsink and fan and all you'd have to do is buy a compatible mobile cpu, ram, m.2 ssd and you'd still have a thin, cool, light, and good battery laptop.
>>
>>51811464
Because they make more money off keeping you locked into buying from them. I mean really have you tried those "customize" options? The shit they sell is almost always overpriced by double+
>>
>>51811464
>what is clevo
>>
meh, thats the price of thinness/ lightness

What you describe exists, but in generally speaking thicker/heavier laptops
>>
>>51811464
This is a thing, it's called bare bones. It's shit because you end up with a gaymen laptop that costs slightly more than an ordinary, mass produced one and it's still heavy, thick and inefficient

in this case well built.
>>
Because laptops are generally a lot harder to take apart and put back together than desktops.

Storage drives and RAM are already easily upgradable in quite a few laptops and manufacturers offer various options for the customer.

Unfortunately when it comes to CPUs most are soldered in these days, likely due to cost and the extra thickness taken up by a socket. Even with socketed ones it's not very simple, there are a shit ton of different sockets, some CPU models being available in multiple different sockets, and cooling and power requirements are a greater concern with laptops than desktops. Usually the manufacturer's options are good enough, and by the time you'll want to upgrade it'd require a new motherboard any way.

Is there any light laptops that actually pack a punch and aren't plastic and flimsy?
>>
>implying that no laptop manufacturer does this

a.)there are really only two different laptop manufacturers in the world, and they're in cahoots with each other
b.) barebones laptops exist and nobody buys them
Why post here without even googling it first?
Why would you even want this? you'll just end up with a desktop sized "laptop"
>>
>>51811546
and it would cost you just as much as buying a "complete" laptop, except you have to put it together yourself.

>Speaking of components: While the Core i7-4810MQ almost reaches 100 °C (212 °F) under maximum load, the GPU levels off at 88 °C (190.4 °F). These results should be a bit higher during the summer.
>>
>>51811464
There is no "standardized" way of manufacturing laptops. Every design is proprietary. Any company that tries to make their laptop "customizable" will charge a premium, and the design will have been proven to be shitty, bulky, and overheating to give the user comfortable (a.k.a non-suable) access to all of the internals.

Desktop computers (well, most) have it easy since they conform to the ATX specification, and parts are easily interchangeable, upgradable, and readily available to manufacture parts for.

The best we got for now are ThinkPads. Lenovo actually made the entire design fully accessible for the user to replace practically any part inside. This is, at least, what I gathered from previously owning a T420. I don't know if they're making the newer ones different to this day.

Razer desu senpai.
>>
>>51811966
That's not surprising for a freaking i7-4810MQ and a GTX 860M on a 13" laptop. Those are high TDP components meant for 15.6" laptops or larger. They're really pushing it.

MSI Whitebook
>>

Then go find a thin powerful cheap laptop for us, you must already have at least one in mind if you claim something else is overpriced.
>>
>>51812308
I don't want one, I'm just saying that a lot of razer's price is based off two things that are necessities.

If you're gaymen then sure the gpu is great, but if you're not then you'll probably not need that powerful of one.
>>
>>51812330
If lightweight and CPU for a fair price are all you're looking for and you can't find it then you're beyond retarded.

You should take one of those night classes for seniors on how to use the internet and google.

Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap laptop with a decent screen and just remote into your home server when you need power.
