Why should a programmer know more than highschool math again?
>>
>Why should a programmer not know the underlying mechanics of the machines they work on.
Fuck if I know man.
>>
>>51806237
Calculus is the only real math. Everything else is just memorization.
>>
>>51806274
Why should a software engineer know calculus? Leave theory bullshit to the computer scientists.

fuck off hamster poster
>>
It depends entirely on what you program.
>>
>Start dicking around with skeletal animation
>Don't know linear algebra

Basically
>>
Because everything that isn't a CRUD application requires a reasonable understanding of a number of different types of math.
>>
>>51806170
Statistics lets you do neat things.
>>
>>51806596
lel nice reply -100 dollars
>>
you dont

when you take calculus find a class that lets you use ti-89 and essentially turn the experience from a boring "learn useless shit that doesn't apply to your degree" class into an applied introduction to TI-BASIC

i passed calc 1 through 3 without knowing a single thing about calculus because of my ti-89
>>
>>51806370
It depends entirely on where the highschool is. German high school math is enough, american is not.
>>
>>51806857
Did you learn a single thing? that just sounds like a bad thing to do.
>>
>>51806857
>using calculators in math classes
You already failed.
>>
>>51806857
nice job paying $$$ for classes and not learning anything
>>
>>51806895
yeah, the syntax on how to find derivatives and definite/indefinite integrals and solving symbolic equations

>>51806939
>memorizing formulas and methods of integration like a robot
>learning

i'm not brainless indian, i have better things to do
>>
>>51806633
But is statistics better than mathematics?
>>
>>51806394
graphical things are very math intensive. But if you plan to just build apps and websites, little math is required
>>
>>51806274
I could see why you gaylords would need linear algebra or probability for programming, but calculus?

So you can code cool shit. You can't code pic related without some pretty heavy math.
>>
>>51807097
Advanced stats require calculus.
>>
>>51807097
My day job involves integrating the equations of motion of molecules. Integrating equations of motion is also useful for vidyagaems
>>
>>51807111
But people who work on stuff like that are usually actual mathematicians
>>
you wanna know why you fucking piece of shit hamster neet? because my job involves reconfiguring MRI machines, now imagine you only had the knowledge of an autistic piece of shit who goes lel calculus is just slopes and tangents and he is the one dictating whether or not your MRI scan shows you have cancer or not.

i devoted myself to preventing that world from coming to fruition. i made that sacrifice for you all.
>>
>>51807111
>>51807356
spoiler people who usually do that stuff are using a 3d package with a beautiful physics engine and a physical render engine

i highly doubt that is a realtime binary, the render is far too clean

>disney
my point exactly
>>
>>51807356
uh you realize that computer scientists are just useful mathematicians right?

> people who usually do that stuff are using a 3d package with a beautiful physics engine and a physical render engine

and guess what, the people who made that render engine knew more than basic high school math.
>>
>>51807419
with generally less mathematical knowledge, which is why companies like pixar hire people with a degree in math, and not a subset thereof.
>>
>>51806878
lol shut the fuck up germ cocksucker, you're not even allowed to wave swastika

fucking pussy ass freedomless bitch, enjoy that refugee cock up your butt.
>>
>>51806170
Depends on if you want to advance past the mindless codemonkey status.
>>
>>51807599

yeah man, like do you want to design tetris in assembly or someshit?
its going to be like fractals which carry the blocks using fractal trigonometry and making the line clear is going to be like a fractal check for each time contact is made
>>
>>51806878
I'm an americlap and I had 2 years of calculus in my public high school. How high do they go in Germany?
>>
>>51807416
Hey baka, somebody had to write the 3d package.
>>
>>51807700
in aus shit high schools we have 'general math' which is optional, we never touch calculus in that class

'methods' is calculus

'specialised' is a little higher
>>
>>51806857
Take notes guys, if you're in college and worried about your future, just remember this is the kind of retard you're competing for a job with, everything is going to be alright.
>>
>>51807455
>>51807724
Yeah, someone who specializes in 3d geometry wrote it so that other programmers don't have to.
>>
why can't we simply agree that different people need different methods/education/information on a day-to-day basis?
>>
>>51806925
this desu senpai
>>
>>51806394

Linear algebra is high school math.

cool
>>
>>51807512
You sound uneducated as fuck. Let me guess. You were born in Clapistan?
>>
>>51807039
So yeah, if you just want to be an entry level code monkey for the rest of your life, you don't need much math.
>>
You don't. You just need to stick some subject what you study for UNI and math was kinda sorta the most logical.

Math is even more useless than it used to be because video games are such a lard portion of programming these days.
>>
>>51810915
>>51810915

>lard

Well i guess that fits too.

Large*
>>
>>51806170
because what passes for college math in the States is highschool math everywhere else
>>
>>51808104
I had to pull a lot of strings to get up to linear algebra in high school. It definitely isn't the norm.
>>
>>51806170
muh vidya dev?

>>51806352
hamster-chan would be a good coder
>do it is lazy
>>
>>51806170
sleep tight hammers
>>
You don't, unless you're going to be working with a data-pool of any reasonable size (hey, idiot, guess what, you will.)

I'd better not see you complaining about your excessive runtimes and basic operations taking quadratic time.
>>
>>51806170
because it makes you versatile; if you only know how to "program" then you'll be stuck writing scripts and "hello world" programs. calculus may not be useful for your perl script to fetch danbooru pics but there is serious money in developing applications for real-world applications, to name a few, seismic and fault analysis, inverse problems, electronic prototyping, machine learning, traveller/coloring problems and compiler deisgn aggressively use both discrete and continuous mathematics. it isn't to say you are a shit coder if you don't know math, it's that you won't be able to write anything useful.
