In terms of performance, I would say that the N3540 is significantly better than the i3-5005U, despite consumes. However, I'm not enough knowledged. I'm looking for a new laptop form y girlfriend, thus virtualization or other specific technologies aren't needed. Thanks for helping.

The i3 is better but uses more electricity. My advice is get an APU laptop instead. Their cheaper and have better iGPUs. The A10-8700P is the best laptop APU imho.

They're*

Got dell 11 with N3540
Personally I'd prefer i3 cause of more max ram and better graphics. But it only have 1 memory slot, so max ram is not that important.

You need to stop with your Carrizo shilling tripfag.

Every OEM that has Carrizo has limited it to 15w TDP, making it perform just as bad as Intel integrated solutions because of throttling.

If there's one laptop out there that was confirmed to be designed for 35w TDP in mind for Carrizo then shill only that.
>>
>>51804771
Not him but notebookcheck.net has shown carrizo to be decent compared to Intel's stuff. Regarding notebooks, this is the only site that matters.

You don't want a laptop with a 35 watt chip, the performance doesn't scale well enough for either company to justify it. It also makes the laptop heavier and hotter.
>>
>>51804771
APU laptops are cheaper and perform just as good as laptop i3s, that's why I recommend them. Yes the 15 watt carrizo chips are not as powerful as the 35 watt ones but I sincerely believe 35 watt chips don't belong on a laptop.

Why? Because the 35 watt A10-4600M on my HP laptop only gives me 2-3 hours of battery life off the charger. It's awful and I wish my laptop had at least 5 hours of battery life.
>>
>>51804797
Compare these two pages and look at game benchmarks.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R6-Carrizo-Benchmarks.144290.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-5500.125586.0.html

Come on, this is pathetic. Carrizo is only slightly ahead of Intel Broadwell GT2 and vomitfag shills for this all the time.

Skylake GT2 pretty much matches Carrizo and GT3 (Iris) and up trounces it even at 35w.

Heh, other anon advocating APUs here, I've got a HP sleekbook running an a6 4455m, battery life used to be around 4ish hours but that was when it was new. Then again, shouldn't expect miracles from a €350 laptop. Only thing Intel had in that price range was a few atom based celerons.

>>51804494
No.

the i3 is faster, it has higher IPC, is higher binned, has hyperthreading and has a newer fabrication process.
>>
>>51804914
But like I said, they are more expensive. That A10-8700P chip most likely costs like $60. That laptop i3 must cost at least $300
>>
>>51804961
This. Laptops with apus are always cheaper.
>>
>>51804961
They most certainly are not.

>This AMD chip only barely beats and Intel chips found in laptops twice as expensive! What are AMD doing?!?
>Also, this insanely expensive Intel chips beats the cheap AMD chip. How can anyone recommend the AMD chip?
I'm sorry, is this really your argument? Both the tripfriend and I specifically stated i3, because the 8700p is generally found in laptops in the same price range as the i3.

As soon as you're dragging not i5 or i7 into the picture you're off on a different planet.
>>
Oh you guys. People here recommending AMD and Atoms.

The i3-5005u is top pick out of these, but the laptop any of these are in will be mediocre at best. But that can be ok.
>>
the i3 is faster, but consider getting a laptop with N3700.
>>
>>51805003
There are plenty of i3 benchmarks on that notebookcheck page. The i3s are only about 5% slower on average. You have no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>51804998
Well that doesn't make sense. APUs are suppose to make laptops cheaper. My A10-4600m chip sells for like $50 brand new.

Is intel bribing laptop manufacturers again?
>>
>>51804998
Erm, did you actually score through that list? They are.
>>51805007
Oh hey look, the "grandma needs an i7 for her emails" brigade has arrived.

Both the i3 and a10 are perfectly acceptable choices for the majority of people but the a10 is a marginally better choice.
>>
>>51805072
Regardless of whether that's true, it unfortunately tears apart the argument for buying a Carrizo laptop.

I like AMD, really. I have a A6-3400m that I've overclocked myself, never let me down. But the sad truth is Intel has really beefed up their Graphics game since 2011 and AMD's answer got shot down by OEM design decisions.
>>
>>51805090
Why does grandma need an i7 for her emails?
You brought it up, please inform us.

I was talking more about screen, build quality, keyboard, touch pad.
>>
>>51804494
>I'm looking for a new laptop for my girlfriend

And you're looking at mCPU performance? Futile endeavour.
>>
>>51805072
>Is intel bribing laptop manufacturers again?
Obviously. They've been doing shady shit even after the x86_64 patent shitfest with AMD.
>>
>>51805050
I've looked at it. Yes, the i3 is only marginally slower but it is still slower.

How do I not know what I'm talking about? Elaborate please because advocating the better performing chip at the same or lower price point sounds like it makes sense to me.

>>51805072
AMD have a lot of bizarre exclusive deals with bestbuy, argos and so on and so forth. You can get a dirt cheap a10 laptop as long as you avoid Amazon, strange as that may sound.
>>51805106
That's a fair point but if you actually look at the reviews then you'll see that most $/€/£400 laptops are very good now. Most manufacturers have really pulled themselves together with a few exceptions like Toshiba sticking out like a sore thumb.
