I have the top end xps 13 now (1tb ssd, 16g ram and i7). It has the qhd touchscreen... I'd pay to bump it down to the 1080p matte. The touchscreen hurts battery so much (not the digitizer, the fact it's 3800*1600 or something). It's like 3x the number of pixels for no reason

if I had an unlimited budget I'd get two laptops, an MSI GT80S with full-retard specs and one of those dell xps 13s with the tiny bezel.
For $700-800 I wouldn't bother getting another laptop. My old core 2 dell latitude with 4 gigs of ram, 64 gig ssd, and a new off-brand battery does everything I need away from my desktop.
I also have an old revision 2 macbook that's pretty useless beyond shitposting/light browsing.

Unlimited money: I'd buy the ThinkPad line from Lenovo and make a custom ThinkPad that's an updated version (latest processor, most advanced GPU, better battery technology) of the T43p I had years ago. I'd keep the ALPS keyboard, the rubberized exterior, and the 4:3 aspect ratio. I'd quadruple the resolution to 2800x2100.
$700 - $800: I dunno. Some business class Dell POS. It works and doesn't break too often.
What I have now: A late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15" Retina display. I like it but like all of the other Macs I've had, a non-moving part has failed. I'm sick to death of Apple's low-quality components priced at a premium.
