I'm currently in my first CS class. We are learning teh "idea" of coding through a program called Alice and it makes me want to shit my brains out.
/g/ what do you think of this shit platter? It fucking crashes on file sizes larger than like 30 megabytes and its just straight ass. Also the girl in their icon looks like what would shit out if shrek and brittany spears had sex and shrek forgot to pull out.
(we use version 2.2 which is outdated)
That shit is awful. I'd rather use scratch

No it's just that i go to the shittiest community college ever. It's full of Ahmed's and Tyrones

Does that college happen to be in Maryland by any chance?
if it makes you anons feel any better, Alice's creator actually got cancer and died.

I remember when I went to St. Clair, and the head of the computer department was telling me about how when they relaunched the programming course they were going to teach Alice instead of VB.NET and java to people with no programming experience.
I told her that if I was paying money to learn how to program, and then didn't learn how to actually program, I would be mad.
Luckily I never had to use it.
One of my friends did, and it was completely retarded.
Even more so than VB.NET.
I was being taught programming by a guy called Remo who worked for NASA and even he showed us how to programming fundamentals using Alice. Can't be that bad. I remember making a small video game using it...basically the main thing I learned is that there are tons of true or false conditions hooked into each other and it just branches out more and more.
First time using netbeans was a nightmare, I'd probably like programming today if it didn't have such ugly messy UI's and leave garbage folders all over the computer... wow. It's really unfortunate actually. I kind of want to learn how to program just to have the knowledge but then there's nothing I'd ever do with that knowledge. Like I know how to model in Blender and Maya and do video editing in after effects etc but never have any real use for them...

>starting programming with an IDE
dude naw
what ever happened to starting people off with a text editor and a compiler? geez.
>>51799977
Sorry, forgot to mention it was java
>>51798888
Lol I used this piece of shit back in my freshman year of highschool which was... 8 and a half years ago? Fuck.
>>51799990
you can write java without an IDE you know.
>>51798888
i used that in a like, introduction to introduction to computer science class
are you by any chance in arizona

Meh, I don't really care anymore. There just isn't any reason for me to know how to program or learn it unless it was my job or I was creating something with a goal in mind. The only reason I kind of want to is just to have a general understanding of all aspects of computing. I want to be a wizard of everything but master of none in tech.
Shit, I literally did this shit in Elementary school.
OP, are you sure this is college?
>>51799590
;_;
>>51800066
why?
that's the exact opposite of what will get you a job.
>>51800085
Just to be knowledgeable I guess, so if i ever wanted to go down a specific route the increased knowledge in other areas would carry over into the one area im focusing on.
>>51799590
That's... Sad.
>>51799516
Moco?
>>51799361
>>51799516
socal? i remember one of the profs using it in a cc here
>>51800142
Nope.
CCBC
