When will you idiots stop falling for the seagate meme, do you even value your data?
Falling for the meme that Seagate is good or falling for the meme that Seagate is bad? Which meme should I not fall for?
I use wd. I just put Seagates in other people's builds. Especially business servers.
so you prefer your western digital brand seagate over the seagate brand seagate?
why not the hitachi brand seagate instead?
and wtf happened to maxtor anyway?
This is now a thread about how you pronounce 'data'
Is it
>day-ta
or
>dah-ta
>>51797342
seagate musterdrace
>>51797500
brits call it dater
>>51797500
>>51797500
Day-Ta
>>51797500
The first, anyone who pronounces it dah-ta should be hanged and their families slaughtered.
This shit's still going strong. No bad sectors, no SMART errors.
>>51797500
Dahyta, m8
>>51797508
>31c
Get ready for drive fail.
>>51797518
>>51797379
>and wtf happened to maxtor anyway?
Search engines and Wikipedia can be a useful source of information :^)
>Maxtor was an American computer hard disk drive manufacturer. Founded in 1982, it was the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world before being purchased by Seagate in 2006.
>>51797518
i fucking don't(Scotland). its day-ta.
>>51797536
that pic is a bit old
she is still ticking, last year it was making really loud clicking noises but that subsided and its still working
only thing on it is my os though
ive had a Seagate 2tb in my HTPC for the last 5 years. No problems
>>51797584
oops wrong drive but goddamn even that one still works
>>51797361
>falling for any meme thb
Seagate 2.5" external drives are the only ones you can buy without getting fucked over by soldered on USB ports, both WD and Toshiba solder the USB ports directly onto the PCB so if the port breaks, you can't rip the drive out and connect via sata to save your files.
>>51799724
>Seagate 2.5" external drives are the only ones you can buy without getting fucked over by soldered on USB ports, both WD and Toshiba solder the USB ports directly onto the PCB so if the port breaks,
but that's wrong, you retard. source, i have taken wd's out of enclosures and installed them into pcs
>>51799798
No you dumb fuck, reviews all over the place showing WD is soldering USB ports directly on the PCB starting with 500GB passports.
WD 1TB Slims
WD 2TBs
If it has USB 3.0 it's probably going to be soldered on.
Toshiba
Cool story bro:
Last week I needed to go through old HDDs and SSDs, looking for emails from several years ago.
The drives that work after sitting in storage for years:
Western Digital Blacks and Greens, Intel SSD, Samsung SSD
The drives that did not work:
Seagates, Kingston SSD
>>51800029
i dont care what your reviews say faggot i have actually opened wd external drives and installed them in pcs. eat shit.
>>51800114
>Opens old drives that were still sata
>Hurr durr I don't care about picture proof eat shit.
Samsung Spinpoint F3 master race
Too bad Samsung's HDD line was bought by the meme
>>51800114
>I don't care about facts.
>>51800525
formerly used all maxtor drives
shitgate buys them up
switched to samsung spinpoints after that
shitgate buys them up
switched to deskstars after that
western failure buys them up
why are the two worst drive makers the only ones left
>>51797379
>tfw still using two 160gb maxtor drives and one runs win7
These fuckers last, even through 4 builds.
>>51800625
Toshiba obtained the Hitachi 3.5" factories from WD during the merger.
>>51797531
That was pulled from a toshiba laptop.
I stopped buying Seagate over a decade ago. Hitachi is my favorite, but I'll buy WD black, blue or green depending on needs if it's much less than the Hitachi counterpart.
>>51800777
Agreed. This is my oldest drive, purchased in 2008.
I've had Samsung, Seagate and WD drives that I purchased after this thing die and be RMA'd, yet this guy still runs strong.
>>51797342
seagate has done good by me. But honestly i'm not loyal to ether seagate or WD its just that there is more replacement parts for a seagate and there's always heaps secondhand in near new order.
My seagates have all lasted 6 years or so and I don't really care much about manufactures as most of them are decent to a extent.
I miss Fujitsu so much :(
>>51800640
> have a 200GB Maxtor in a fat PS2
> was bought in 2006 for family PC
Goddamn, do they ever.
I have two of them raided so i dont really care
>>51797535
>>51797529
Dah-ta sounds more logical to my supeior intellect
I dont know why anyone would think it needs to be Day ta
>>51797342
not really since all I have are chinese cartoons so I couldn't care less
Since 1992 I have never a Seagate drive fall on me, not once.
I have had alot of loud ass western digitals though, and slow ass Toshiba's.
>>51800114
trump?
>>51797500
Day-Ta when speaking English
Dah-Ta when speaking Norwegian
>>51801360
holy shit
that's
a nice picture
>>51801368
>>51797500
both
that's a lot of day-ta
that task is dah-ta intensive
I did 8 years ago, OP.
I remember having 4 fucking seagate drives fail on me within less than a year. Been with toshiba, samsung, WD, they still work today. I got an external 500gb seagate hard drive last year and it's still working but I ain't going to use that shit for anything but data that I can easily download/acquire somewhere else. Fuck that.
>>51797342
>>51797365
>>51797379
The funny part is, WD is getting fucking sloppy while Seagate seem to finally be getting their shit together.
>>51797539
Kek'd
>>51801600
The funny part is that WD were all Greens and Reds meanwhile Barracudas were still failing 229% of the time.
>have owned over 8 Seagates in my lifetime
>still have 5 of them funtioning
>never fell for meme
i gave 2 externals to friends and i lost one when i dropped it from about 5ft in the air other than that i have never had a problem except their loud as fuck
>>51797500
You say dahta
I say dater
You say tomayto I say tomarto
you say potarta I say potayto
dahta, dater, Potayto, potarta, tomayto, tomarto.
Let's call the whole thing off
But oh, if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart
So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas,
I'll wear pyjamas and give up pyajahmas
For we know we need each other so we
Better call the whole thing off
Let's call the whole thing off.
Idk if that count but i have both wd black 500g and a seagate 500g. Both has approximatly 1600days. Wd is in perfect state, but the seagate got bad sectors and error end-to-end not mentionning it runs pretty damn hot (37c vs 31c for the opd wd). It still works though. Based on these 2 disk abd not under real hhd experience, i bought a new wd black 1tb cause they seems like pretty decent hdd
>>51800625
Because being shitty in this market is actually going to make you profits.
>>51800625
BCUZ A DUOPOLY GETS TO PRICE FIX
MERGE AND ACQUIRE UNTIL THERES EFFECTIVELY ONLY 2
BUT DONT MAKE IT EFFECTIVELY ONLY 1 CUS THEN UR A MONOPOLY AND THATS NOT ALLOWED :^)
Seagate haven't been the same since they flooded the market.
Wouldn't recommend.
>Seagate is bad
They learned from the shitty ST3000DM001, which is more than I can say for WD sadly.
>>51800723
Yeah it was, how did you know?
>>51802781
Because we all have taken apart old shit Toshiba Satellite laptops
>>51797500
deitor
>>51802196
>Expected
The 1tb barracuda is a better choice than the 1tb caviar blue everyone adores, buy I wouldn't choose Seagate in any other circumstance
>>51802196
I've got 3 of the ST4000M000 over 1k hours and they're all fine.
One's almost at 10k hours.
