2560p:

+ usually cheaper
+ has optical bay that can be used with a caddy to add a second HDD/SSD
+ socketed CPU, you can put in a quad core if you want.
I have one, I'm pretty happy with it

X220:

+ optional IPS screen
+ lighter and thinner
+ better battery life, especially with the 9 cell and/or slice battery options

I can't get over the ghosting issue on the x220/x230. Other than that they really are pretty excellent machines. Port placement leaves something to be desired on the x230 but it has so much to cram in its forgivable.

How true is this, though? Could you actually put in a 2760QM or something?

Isn't the keyboard and trackpoint way worse than the thinkpad as well or are they actually comparable?

Honestly I just hate HP. I gt one of those envy macbook clones a year ago and it has the worst fucking trackpad I have ever had. The design of the part makes them all go bad and HP doesn't care at all. Also it seems like every chassis they build in (at least the desktop ones) are utter garbage. At least a Dell is fun to take apart.
Really though all computer companies are foxconn so it doesn't matter
>>
>>51801899
From what I can tell, the X220 is just as good as a 2560P and have some benefits over the X220 like having a socketed CPU, easier to get to the hardware, no ghosting bullshit with the screen supposedly, no funky smells..

oddly enough, people are saying that putting the thinkpad trackpoint cap onto a elitebook makes the elitebooks pointstick very similar to the thinkpad trackpoint so I really don't see the problem with this elitebook unless you just have to have that middle click.

Yes, although under heavy loads it won't be able to maintain full turbo speed, and will get kinda noisy.

Yes; the trackpad is better anyway. The trackpoint is way to sensitive and the only way to adjust it adjusts the trackpad as well.

x200/x201, or x220 if you don't mind paying a bit more.

T410, T420 if you want a 14". s model if you want slimness/mobility at the cost of some cpu power.

2560p/2570p if you want an Elitebook. 8460p/8470p if you want a 14" model, folio 9470m if you want the nicest ultrabook made.

Dell E6410/E6420 if you want to go with their business models.

>smaller battery
you can get larger ones (9cell) if you like

the appeal of the tablet is for people who need to use a tablet
>>
>>51802927
It's barely a tablet, though. It's like a 3.5lb laptop that has a screen with a digitizer in it, that's it. Do you use it to take notes in class?
>>

I'd say 'dropped' but there was no way in hell I'd even pick that thing up
>>
>>51802952

I rough-sketch technical diagrams and then send them to the art department

I edit pdfs of scientific and technical articles -- the kind of pdfs that tablets don't render easily (or at all) because of the size of the pdf when the edits are post-processed in Adobe Acrobat

The X220T is an actual computer, like the higher-end Surface models, but it's more durable, and doesn't afraid of anything

Too bad Toshiba only orders trash at chinese shit companies and basically doesn't make any hardware
>>
>>51806046
I had an early HP tablet (NR2000 or something) that never ran properly because the processor would become blazing hot after 15 minutes, and then the fan would sound like a Sikorsky was landing after 20 minutes. Imagine trying to use this hot noisy mess for notetaking. It was also "creaky" because the construction wasn't solid. Worst $500 I ever spent on tech. After a year, the gpu burned itself out.

The elitebooks don't have the gimicky force sense stuff that macs do but the 2560p/2570p has one of the nicest touch pads on a windows laptop. That particular model has a smooth glass finish over the top that is so responsive yet smooth to the touch it's unreal. My one 2170p and other ones (8460p, 8570p) use a matte finish which is still nice but not as good as the glass finish.

They all use Synaptics so there are customisable options too. I made the top left corner on mine act like a middle mouse click.

Yes most Elitebooks have two mSATA ports, the second one is for WWAN cards though and is electronically incompatible with mSATA ssds unless you feel like soldiering.

the thinkpads can do that but it's honestly very bad. you have to push pretty hard to make it work as a tap to click. it's really not a tap. i'd never use that feature, anyway. the trackpad on the 2560p is so good that I never actually use the trackpoint even though it's pretty good.

What do you mean? The HP equivalent to the T430 would be the 8470p. ThinkPads and EliteBooks are both good. EliteBooks go for less because no meme tax. EliteBooks don't have any smells. EliteBooks are constructed better.

With ThinkPads like an X220, you're paying for the lighter and thinner design(even though popping the disk drive out of the 2560p makes it weigh almost the same). The 2560p is otherwise a better machine. Good luck finding an X220 in great shape with the typical 2520m/4GB RAM configuration with a battery that's holding 4+ hours for $150. It's just not happening.

It will if you pick a 2560p for example, though.

I think the fact that you can get the pic in OP for $150 is p ridiculous. Computer prices have gone way, way down. $150 is fucking nothing if we're talking about a full laptop that can handle whatever you throw at it, via performance and physical wear.

Some of the design choices on the ThinkPad are good, and some on the EliteBooks are good. I think that the EliteBooks did it better and are more all-around solid machines but the weight/thickness was too important for people to give up and the thinkpads being .5lb-1lb rocked the boat too much and that's why we have the thinkpad meme we have today.

also all of the muh linux compatibility, that is mostly for the old, old thinkpads like the x60 and shit that nobody even uses anymore. /tpg/ is just a circlejerk at this point.

Why get backlight keyboard when you can have a thinklight?

Seriously guys.
>>
>>51823174
These do have equivalent thinklights. some of the newer ones obviously have backlit keyboards, just as thinkpads do too.

>What's better, underpowered business laptop A or underpowered business laptop B?

I'm sure both would make excellent word processing and 4chan machines
>>
>>51824313
You have literally no clue what you are talking about.
Stop right now before you make yourself look like even more of an idiot.
>>
>>51824313
>underpowered
lol wut these are just as powerful as $600 laptops right now, easily.

Either btfo me with an actual argument or go fuck yourself with your mobile dual core and integrated graphics.

5200u came out in january of this year and is in laptops that cost $750 right now. You can buy either of the laptops in the OP with the 2520m for ~$150.

You both realize I was mocking laptops in general and not these particular systems (in comparison to other laptops) right?

2710p master race here, best fucking laptop I've ever owned (other then my XPS 13) would recommend a convertible to anyone who has never used one.
>>
>>51824772
Whether I'm dumb or not is irrelevant. Whichever choice you make, you're going to end up with a glorified machine. Really the shit displays makes it so they're not even that good for that.

some people have to leave the house, anon. we get that you just built your first tower but nobody gives a fuck.

I haven't touch a dell for a long time.but i tell u that
EliteBooks are great and got that premium feeling for the aluminium.(before this laptop i hate HP i don't love it either but now its a bit different) and i notice that nobody said nothing but elitebooks are split resistant too

Only 2170p and folio 9470m have backlit keyboards (and everything 4th gen+), everything older including 2570p, 8570p use that stupid light near the webcam.

>>51826982
Sorry, I don't like it. On the 60p models it isn't bright enough to light up the keyboard and on the 8560p/8570p it isn't centred with the keyboard so it only illuminates one side.

I have a quad-booted HP 2570p, 500gb SSD ± 1tb SHDD upgrade with a real quad i7. kicks ass senpai

I'm gonna jump in this thread and ask what you guys think of asuspro laptops, more specifically this one:

I had a T430 before I broke it by trying to open it. It was a nice laptop. Hard as fuck to replace anything other than the RAM though. I liked how the laptop was relatively light and slim. Batteries were straightforward and easy to acquire.

You won't face that issue with the HP ProBooks/Elitebooks but you still have to put up with HP's shit with expensive batteries
>>

Do you like the XPS 13? What model did you get?
>>
In general I like the 2560/2570 better, but the screens are terrible. Both are decent thought. I personally chose the HP because it was a lot cheaper and also better (except the fucking screen, not even an ips option!)
