You can hate them all you want for that 810 shit but they seem to be going to back to prime Qualcomm with the 820. 2x low power + 2x high power is the way to go. If they ever do make that 8-core version of the 820 though I'll go back on my words. Still waiting for A72 chips. Samsung already has their own internally developed ARMv8 core arch as well as their own GPU arch. I'm not sure what Keller would be working on unless it was something many years down the road.

Keller was in a management position overseeing a couple key projects. He was not hired on as a permanent fixture of the company.
High level arch was finished, and it'll be continually tweaked and modified by lower level technicians. There was really nothing left for him to do at AMD. They even have a new successor to HyperTransport.

Qualcom is using a quad core CPU and we won't know this until the full information is out, but in all likelihood they are devoting similar amounts of area on the SOC to CPU as Apple does. Apple favors making two very big, high speed cores over 4 lower speed cores or ARMs BIG.little 4 fast, 4 slow cores.
Octane is a javascript benchmark. In short, I fully expect Apple to be faster than a multiple small-core paradigm. The important consideration is that Qualcom is beating the Galaxy Note 5 in a similar phablet form factor on a similar process node.
