No. It never makes a perfect contact, there are always ridges and what not, the thermal paste fills that in and makes a good contact

Yes. That thick heavy paste won't draw the heat away. Just use a small drop of water. It works better like it does in water cooled systems.

I soldered mine to the heatsink and got better temps than with arctic silver 5 bullshit.
As long as it doesnt hit about 350 degrees im good.
