It's still a design disaster, and forces the user to always use wireless.

This is once again a part of Apple's philosophy if deciding how we use their products, instead of letting us decide how we want to use their products.

Didn't you know? The newest Macbooks don't have USB ports.
>>
>>51784645
It does feel like Apple is being sabotaged.

I will mention, the Apple Pencil thing isn't as retarded as it looks.
15 seconds of charge gives it 30 mins of battery.
The pencil comes with a cable for "actual" charging. They just designed it so you can quickly "top up" the pen if it runs out when on the go. I don't think it was ever intended to be left like that for minutes.
>>
>>51784848
>>51784851
>>51784861

if they tried to fit the charging port to the front, it would make the mouse bigger, since the front end goes so near to the ground: to fit the port there would have to be:

1. a hole in the design for a cable
2. higher distance from ground to fit the port under

both would ruin the design of the mouse

>>51784857

There's two reasons companies like Apple are very interested in diversity programs.

The PR-friendly line is that getting more women and minorities involved in the product design process will allow them to better appeal to those markets. If something is made primarily by a team of upper class males, it stands to reason that it won't have the interests of middle/lower class females in mind.

The less PR-friendly reason for these programs is that by bringing more and more people into the labor pool, the cost of labor will be driven downwards significantly. This is also why companies like Google, Microsoft, etc. are spending so many resources on free educational tools to get people into programming.
>>
>but it only takes 2 minutes to charge!!!

>>
>>51785859

>if you are not smart enough to buy a replacement battery from ebay and opening and replacing the internal battery you are dumb

I could see your point if you were talking about a high end phone or laptop. On a mouse? Hardly even worth the effort.

>and I highly doubt its going to die in a short time, its going to last many years before becoming unusable

Now you're baiting. The usual batteries average 3-4 years of life, and reduced lifetime way earlier.
>>
Before Jobs died:
>Apple designs iPhone at the perfect size for human hand interaction, releases multiple videos explaining why it's exactly the size that it is
>Apple bashes the concept of a smaller, or larger iPad, again explaining why it is the size that it is (Equivalent to an 8x11 sheet of paper)
>Apple focuses on what they want to do, ignoring market pressure in favor of creating their own markets
>Jobs mocks the idea of a stylus for iOS devices, pointing out how they were designed from the ground up for the human hand

After Jobs died:
>Base iPhone size increased, introduces massive iPhone plus due to market pressure
>iPad Mini released due to market pressure
>iPad Pro released due to market pressure, doesn't even have the same aspect ratio
>Apple Watch created and released due to market pressure
>iPad Stylus created due to market pressure
>Hideous iPhone battery pack created due to market pressure

It's getting pretty bad. Apple has fallen so far recently. They're barely a step above Samsung in terms of just copying whoever's successful at that moment.

Sometimes I think Hitler was right...

>>51784884

>See them thinking the iPad could compete with the Surface in any market.

The apple mouse is the only thing that will die on you and you have to stop your work flow while you charge it, Not even providing an option for a separate cable.
>>
>>51785961
>it's still the same if you ignore what's different!
>>
>>51784728
Part of being in the apple ecosystem is to buy the newest hardware as it comes out. The mouse will be changed long before the batteries runs out. Maybe the apple engineers invent a new charging port for example, then you need the new mouse with the cool new charging port. Maybe they move the charging port to the top of the mouse, maybe on one of the buttons AND underneath it as well so you need a dual cord. Gotta get the newest hardware, pleb.

A month, for a mouse, isn't a long interval. I use rechargeable batteries in my Logitech, and, like the other guy said, they last about 12 months a charge.

1 month charge duration is what you'd expect for a Kindle, not a mouse.

What if you're not watching a movie?
What if you actually use your computer for productivity. For some 2 minutes is a lot, that's why there's a market for i7s and not everyone settles on an i5.
I'm also pretty sure 80% in 2 minutes is bad for any battery.
>>
>>51786304

>>51786280

What are we talking about here? This is mouse tech. Mice should be super-efficient, and have been for years. Apple fucked up. No, really. They made the wireless mouse dependent on a power source at a higher frequency than the standard (8-12 months versus 1 month, or whatever). That's really unacceptable. Things should be moving forward, not a decade backwards

apple's entire culture is hinged on design being intuitive and reasonable. this is an unreasonable place to put a charging port for something that needs more than annual charging.

nobody is saying it's not possible. i said the best case scenario is people plugging it in overnight because it's more likely that people will forget.

casting it as a *challenge* that's too "hard" to do is retarded. don't act retarded. it's something that's easy to forget, and the cost of realizing that you've forgotten in this case is very high, because it's impossible to plug it in and use it (the way you can with the new keyboard, as an obvious example).

the actual MX mouse has a lower profile

its also much more responsive in tracking, has a better inertial balance, and the buttons are placed in a different area, which, for me, makes it very usable

the flywheel in the MX is also faster but also more precise than the mouse you're using

>implying this problem wasnt created by apple
Apple fucks up everything but their stupid shills still try to justify it by saying "its not apples fault that it is as it is".
Like "its not Apples fault that the one port only thing makes their macbook a complete waste of money"
"its not Apples fault they had to design their products in such a shitty way because they fucked up all their shit in the first place"

Industrial Design major here. Graduating in spring.

The Magic Mouse has always been shit. It's a great concept with great sensors wrapped in the least ergonomic shell I've ever had the displeasure of holding. Apple has always been shit at mouse ergonomics (actually at ergonomics in general for several years now). At least with the mighty mouse they tried to strike a balance between looks and comfort (It still wasn't that comfortable, but better than every other apple mouse I've used). I'm not even a little bit surprised they put the charging port where they did. One, they didn't want to mess up the look of the mouse at all, and Two, they don't want people using it while it's plugged in. Apple accessories are WIRELESS and it's very important for them to keep that "no wires no mess" image intact. Even if it comes at the expense of their customers.

The pencil dick is retarded too, obviously. Even if they did build that thing solid as a rock it would probably get looser and looser over time (assuming you never fucked up and just broke it off completely, which would be way too easy). The only thing I can say is good about it is that at least it charges fast, so less time for it to spend in such a vulnerable position.

The battery case is just lazy and honestly embarrassing. Just lazy as fuck nothing much else to say about it. There have been much better alternatives for years, but I have a feeling I'm going to see more of these than of the third party cases.

As an almost industrial designer, Apple design is boring as shit. There are a few aspects of a few products I like, like the curved edges of the iPhone's screen glass (which seems like a total rip of the Infobar A02 but whatever), and the Pencil looks nice, but other than that it's all either stagnant or boring as hell. They've been fucking up more and more since Jobs died, it'll be interesting to see how it goes over the next 5 years.

too many ports drains battery life

we cant have that now

things should just look like they work (this battery runs great (with one thing attached (because if had more things attached it would drain faster))), not actually be useful

This!
I did not like jobs apple stuff because of their price, but after holding a 3gs i was amazed how well it fits the hand because of the round back and small size. Their new phones feel like shit in hand and this thinness bs is the biggest cancer to the mobile world.
Apple is complete shit right now and there is no going back.

This

Same thing for the mouse, it charges really fast, therefore you don't actually leave it plugged like that for a long time.

There is just the battery case I don't get. They could have just made the phone a little thicker, nobody would have noticed, and there would be no need for that type of case.

Slimming the 3GS was very welcomed. But after the 4, I felt we had reached an optimal thickness.
