>son is having computer issues
>gets his personal tech support(aka dad) on it.
>I log on to his computer, realize he installed Ubuntu on his pc
>check his web history like most nosy parents do.
>kids been doing nothing but watching porn, dragonball, and programming tutorials.
>do some Linux terminal gobbledy goop, and reboot pc.
>issue fixed.
>still thinking about son programming.
>look at some of his scripts
>he's been dabbling in C++ and python.
>talk to him about his programming later, and tell him that I support his hobby, and also to hide his porn better because he doesn't want his mother to find that on his pc.

Tl,Dr my son has been barely scratching the surface of basic programming, what can I do to help him progress outside of encouraging it, and teaching him the occasional trick.
>>
Start by making programing challenges, then see the results and give him advice on things to improve and learn.
Get him an audrino or RPi for christmas.
>>

Letting him feel the rush of solving a problem.
Get him started early with things like recursion, pointer manipulation, and main loops/event processing.

If he's young enough, he'll be able to both become comfortable with pointers, and learn to never use them before he gets to college.

You're mentally retarded. I have no idea if trolling has actually gotten this deep.

Kek 4chan on parenting.

How old is your son? If he's at or near that rebellious age or you are normally somewhat distant you might want to simply show off some things your working on to him to strike up a conversation, don't push anything or else it will be your hobby, not his. Generally just think about how he would react, don't focus on creating "father-son time".

If he's at college age then tell him to move out.
>>
>>51781433
Standard c++ best practice is to avoid pointers unless absolutely necessary. Have you lived under a rock for the last two decades? Or have you not made it to two decades yet?
>>
>>51781739
I use C. I see that he mentioned C++ but maybe he'll get into C today.
>>
>>51781293
Get him books and tech him programming principals.

Doing absolutely nothing. For a teenager, everything that your father encourages you in is not cool. Hint that you have skills in this area and can explain things if requested, and then stay the fuck out of his game.
>>
>>51781293
Do absolutely nothing.

Sometimes hobbies are killed when parents over-encourage.

He wants his kid to be successful, not some weeaboo NEET robot who lives in his basement programming waifu simulators

Dress him in girls clothes.
Everybody knows it makes you 100% better at programming.

Are you trying to say that waifu simulators won't make money?

So... you told him that his computer is subject to random inspection basically

Buy him some professional masurbating tools. Replace ubuntu with a non-babby-os.
>>
People in this thread saying to buy him this or that or to get him to start learning/doing x/y/z thing don't understand how the majority of kids act and think. Depending on his age, if you force him into things he's not ready to do or doesn't want to do then he'll resent both you and the hobby for it. If you want to teach him then ask first. Don't just go, "Oh you like programming? Here come do this!" and force something on him. Communication is key.

For now just tell him you're a resource if he needs it.

the whole thread was people callin him a kek

Oh wait, I think I've seen that one. The kekolding meme really got out of hand.
>>
>>51781886
This.
>>
>>51781365
This.

But make sure he wants to learn more. It seems like he does but turning your relationship into a teacher-student relationship can turn south. Offer to give him a few exercises to increase his problem solving skills and move on from there.

Patriarchical shitlord, stop limiting his agency and enforcing your hegemony over him as his father. He has a name, stop reducing him down to some class.
