Hey /g I need dome help in trying to power this water pump but I don't know how. If anyone could help that would be awesome
Here is the link to the amazon page for more info http://www.amazon.com/Docooler%C2%AE-Ultra-quiet-DC12V-Brushless-Submersible/dp/B00JWJIC0K/ref=pd_bxgy_86_img_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=01G2J5CJ6JMM0MK13PXA

Connect it to what I already tried connecting it to a battery and a AC adapter.
>>51779569
Can you take a picture of the power supply?
>>51779596
yeah heres one of the things I tried to use to power it
>Brushless
You had me scared shitless for a second, but then I saw the two leads.
So, connect it to a 12V DC source. Red is positive. What battery and AC adapter did you use? If this >>51779684 was the only battery, it can only provide 1.5V, you need 8 of them in series to drive your pump. AC adapter will say what voltage it provides somewhere on the body also.

^ This
Also, the Amazon page says it included a 12VDC power supply. So why not use that?

here are the other things that I tried to connect to the pump http://imgur.com/a/Xwrcq

The AC adapter should have worked. Did you put red wire inside and black on the outside of the barrel jack?
You need to plug the wires into either the 12v rail on your CPU power supply (Yellow & Black on the Molex connector) or hook it up to your car battery.
P.S. Next time consider getting one with a 3-pin connector like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-350L-H-DC-12V-6W-Micro-Pump-Motor-for-PC-Water-Cooling-System-3pin-Connector-/281406949564?hash=item41852948bc:g:kLMAAOSwQItT5Dw4
>>51779774
yeah i got a few small sparks but nothing happened besides that
>>51779807
Maybe the adapter isnt delivering enough current?
>>51779833
The shaky picture says rating is 500mA. Looks like old one with a huge transformer, no reason to mislabel.
>>51779833
Test it with a multimeter
The pump is 5W and the pump is 500mA at 12v so it could deliver up to 6W
>>51779888
I don't have a multimeter is there something else I can use?
>>51779862
So could that meant that the adapter is too old to use for the pump?
>>51779862
>Max rated current: 400mA
>Power supply output: 500mA
Think i found the problem
>>51779927
I'd suggest buying a multimeter because they are super cheap but if you have another 12v application
>>51779958
Its not like he blew out his pump, if there is too much amperage that's fine because the device only takes what it needs. Voltage is different on the other hand and too much voltage will destroy his pump
>>51779982
Get a digital multimeter though. Analogs suck
>>51779982
so would you suggest me holding off the testing till I can get a multimeter?
>>51780079
Yes.
>>51780079
Yeah multimeters are pretty essential for electronic stuff like this. The cheapest ones are about $10 and would probably work fine for basic stuff such as this but if you have an interest in electronics or hope to do more electronic stuff in the future i'd get a better one that is autoranging
Extech and craftsman make good ones in the lower price ranges

OK thank all you guys for helping me solve this for now.
Ask your mother.
That's what I do whenever I need dome help.
