looks (and therefore taste) aside natos/zulus are literally the "sliced bread" of watch straps.
There's absolutely not a single downside of wearing them.

>made from durable material that doesn't deteriorate
>light
>protects your watch
>waterproof
>comfortable
>don't pull your armhair
>single piece
>easy to put on, easy to take off, doesn't require tools
>a lot of holes close to each other, fits every hand
>you can throw it in the washing machine with your clothes if it gets dirty or sweaty and get it nice, clean and with nice smell in an hour
>lots of sizes
>lots of patterns, you can find one that will fit your watch most of the time

and most important

They're fucking cheap, like 20 USD a bag of them each one different

actually, my pretty much biggest gripe with natos/zulus is the way they're not ideal for getting wet

resin, steel and whatnot bracelets are waterproof and can dry pretty fast - just shake them a bit or wipe the water off or anything.

nylon straps though? they'll stay annoyingly damp for a really pretty long time

though they still are waterproof, just had to mention this

Not him, but the overall the Seiko 5 (not the sports) is pretty much a small dull mechanical watch.

There are exceptions like the SNK809 that look like field watches, but the SKX has an overall better features (excellent lume,bi-directional bezel, 20ATM WR&ISO certified), a great unique original "tool watch" look, and being bigger it feels a lot more substantial.

And yes, pic related isn't an SKX, but it's quite close.

I know that the 5s are lacking in features, and are just dull mechanicals. I only meant that that guy was complaining about their reliability but was getting a watch with the same movement.

That guy here. The SKX is more reliable becuase the case offers much better shock protection, the 7s26 movement is very sensitive to shocks and a lot of them will outright stop from just a few medium bumps.
The Seiko 5 is a good watch, but I'm pretty tired of people hyping them up to be more than what they are.
>>
>>51777320
No, not really.

Same movement, same shock protection, different casing (which offers better WR).

Id honestly go with Tsar automatic since they have tritium, automatic movement which will probably last for decades unserviced. The plastic battery garbage might be handy with a compass and barometer but solars usually stop working after 10yrs.

Nato is must have for comfyness and reliability.

It doesn't suddenly stop working, the tritium decays with a half life of 12 years. After 12 years it'll be maybe half as bright and after like 20-25 years it's basically too dim to see. I have a watch with tritium paint rather than tubes and the lume is pretty much dead after about 35 years, you can just barely almost make it out in total darkness if your eyes are adjusted.

Funny enough the radium they used to use before everyone started crying about muh radiation and muh cancer and muh horrifically sick and dying Radium Girls has a half life of like 6500 years or something so those should still be glowing like new.

JDM Citizen Promaster Sky PMV65-2271

It is a super underrated watch. In my opinion one of the best watches watches of that line Citizen has ever made.

They really put a lot of effort into it, you can tell by the build quality.

And whatever treatment they gave the titanium to make it scratch resistant absolutely works. Still not a single scratch on it after years of use.

Random pic of the lume and red LED I just found on google if you were curious as to what it looked like.

Good movement, thermocompensation and rated to about 10 seconds per year, which is as good as the old Twin Quartz everyone here likes to salivate about. Shame about the non-applied logo and that AUTOMATIC-tier text at the bottom of the dial.

I've looked at them because they're one of the few HAQ watches available new but it's pretty boring looking and I don't like the DOLCE text and god damn that stock leather strap is ugly. Definitely a neat movement though and you seem to be getting a lot for like $350 including even diashield and AR coated sapphire which would cost you almost twice as much in the AUTOMATIC SDGM models.

Bulova Precisionist, or Accutron II, they're one and the same really. But unlike they Seiko they're hi-beat quartz- you get dat smooth seconds hand at the expense of eating through a battery every year and a half or so.
>>
>>51779756

>>
>>51781232
Most of them look really bad (either extremely gaudy, or just very fat (46mm+), or have bad colorschemes that make reading the time harder (blue, gold+white, etc.)
Sweeping second is pretty great, though.
What's the point of a watch that's accurate within seconds a year if you have to adjust its date every other month, though?
>>
>>51778157
What did you use to attach your bezel insert? I have a bezel coming from yobokies for my skx013 but I have no idea how to attack it and dagaz only has tape for the skx007 insert.

>>51781681
Yeah that's my main criticism of Seiko's high end quartz movements. Only the 8Fs had perpetual calender and of course it's the fucking line of movements they cancel a couple years back.

I've got a 6309-7290, the bezels are the same size as a 7002 diver (skx) so I'm assuming what I'm saying is helpful.
My bezel was enough of a tight fit that it didn't require any sort of adhesive. I haven't had any issues with it, then again it's not like I beat my watches around.

If it doesn't come with adhesive already applied then firstly DON'T use superglue, it sets brittle and will be useless against knocks. You need to use a flexible glue, rubber cement is ideal.

Someone posted a knockoff Snoopy Speedmaster yesterday, which got me hung up on the idea of having a subtle cartoon dog on my watch dial. I'd feel cheeky as fuck wearing it to work, kind of like I'm pulling a fast one on everyone else.

Does anything similar to this exist, preferably a much cheaper quartz or automatic watch? The only other Snoopy themed watches I've seen are those ones with Peanuts characters that take up the full size of the watch dial and are meant for 5-year-olds. I need something subtle like this watch.

Awesome, this is almost right up my alley. Not as cheeky as snoopy but it still has a cartoon dog. Never heard of this brand though, are they considered a designer/fashion watch brand like Fossil or are they at least comparable to cheap Seikos?
>>
>>51785294
They are a nice microbrand that was featured on the old buyers guide.

Overall the quality should be on par with Obris Morgan, if not slightly better (same movement as OB explorer 2).

I will probably add them into the next buyers guide once i finish the poorfag and low end watches and move on to the lower mid end or mid end.

Little over $330.
But original box, display case, manual, and even the (useless) replacement battery.
Complete set.
Condition is what you'd expect from a 50+ year old watch. Some scuffs and wear on the steel, I'll probably get it cleaned or do it myself. Not too well though, a slight aged looks is a big part of why I love vintage watches.
Only ascetic cleaning though, I don't want anyone touching the mechanics. Eventually I'll have it sent to be serviced if I find any problems or if after wearing it for a while I love it enough to know a service would be worth it.

From the pics it looks all original, the crystal MIGHT have been replaced, but only with an official Bulova crystal. But that shit is hard to figure out. Either way, I don't mind.

Original band. Not one of the rare ones. Can't tell if it has the Accutron logo on it.

All in all I got a really good deal. Which scares me a little, but when I get it, if anything is actually fish, I can always say the seller lied. EBay is good about that shit.
I can't wait to hear the hum of the tuning fork.

Bullshit, most of seiko's stuff is pretty shit (the same is true for any watchmaker). Especially, the grand seiko line is surprisingly low-quality for being a luxury line. No senpai not at all.

A Timex will tell you the time if that is all you want. it's going to be a basic quartz.

And you're right obviously there is no difference between an expensive mechanical watch and a cheap quartz. A rolex no date sub is going to tell you it's 12:30 in exactly the same way as a timex weekend. Hell for the few grand you drop on it it's not going to do it as accurately as the quartz.

There is also no difference between a ford focus and a Ferrari. they are both going to get you to the shops in exactly the same way especially if you stick to the speed limit. you wont spend as much time filling up the focus either so arguably it will get you there faster and cheaper.

there are plenty of differences between cheap an expensive watches. if you just want to know what the time is then get the timex.

Shit comparison sempai.

Let's list the things a watch offers:
- functionality
- visual design
- durability
- finishing
- comfort
- reliability

Of all those things, a Timex is going to be better except on the finishing point: it's more accurate because quartz, it's going to be more durable overall, less maintenance because you just change the battery, the comfort will be the exact fucking same, and the design is quite subjective.

Now a Ford Focus and a Ferrari? Shit nigga, they're totally not the same. A Ferrari will offer superior performance, superior comfort, all sorts of extra functionalities you have no idea of, way superior functional design, stellar durability and reliability, and the visual design is so good you could almost say it's objectively better aswell. Oh, and better finishing, like a Rolex.

Sounds like a terrible comparison to me.

It's the kind of watch you would only get for the design. It's almost made to be disposable, because once it dies, you're better off throwing it in the trash.

You can't possibly do worse. Even $2 chink watches are better, because they're the exact same thing but at least they're appropriately priced.
