already checked, thats paying almost $150 more and I have to wait till the middle of janurary..
>>
>>51776124
Send me the money i'll stop by my local Microcenter and pick one up for you and ship it to you.
>>
>>51776124
You don't.

You buy a X99 board and a 5820K for the same or less.
>>
Eurofag here,
Same problem. My shop secured me one at 370 € shipped. 6700K. I guess I'm lucky reading that in the USA you are in the same boat.
>>
That's a lot of money to blow on bendable CPUs.

Soon I'll be there bro, soon.
My CPU is being shipped tomorrow.
>>
>>51778665
Nice man. What cpu are you coming from? I was on a 920 so it was definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
>>
>>51776209
>uses less power
>overclocks better
>doesn't bend with cpu coolers
>cheaper

4790K is better than 6700K. Clock for clock 6700K is only 5% faster but it uses more power so it doesn't really count.

At the rate CPU's are going, games are barely bottlenecked at a noticible level via the CPU if you have even a fucking current gen Athlon II that's unlocked

And I mean GAMES, not emulators like PCSX2 calling for CPU-exclusive instruction sets to compensate for shitty optimization, or Cinebench scores that mean nothing to the average anon. The average PC game will be reliant on the GPU most of the time, and you could easily get away with an i7 one or two gens behind if you're pairing it with a passable GPU, or go with a Xeon if you wanna get exotic

I've been using a non-K i7-4770 for a long-ass time, and I've only ever had to replace my GPU whenever games started getting cunty. Skylake isn't even an upgrade from Broadwell if current fanfare is to be trusted, and Broadwell itself was barely an upgrade from Haswell
>>
I'm getting a Haswell i7 6700K, what's the difference between Skylake, Haswell and the others?
>>
>>51778734
Eh I'm still on a E8500, X38, 4Gb DDR2, 560 Ti.

Still very respectable performance. This new build is because I have some spare cash and I made myself a Xmas gift.

But sat price hike tho. I'm the guy here >>51778085
And I had to wait for the store to help me so greatly. Also will go straight to the new m.2 950 from Samsung. Those stick SSD seem to be fucking rockets. Waiting the 512 gb for now impossible even to see on the listings.
>>
>>51778852
Wut?
>>
>>51778852
6700k is only Skylake senpai
>>
>>51778884
>>51778893
Fuck sorry, I misread, "same performance AS Haswell". Anyway what's the difference between all those subbrands? What are they etc?
>>
>>51778394
Lettuce be reality. The 920 produces so much heat and wastes so much electricity, you'll end up saving at least $200 a year on your electric bill. Get a Haswell on the X99 platform and win the game of life.
>>
>>51778807
If you are implying I'm rich, you are mistaken. Took me more than a pay check to flat out buy everything. I also went all out on this build. My last one was from xmas '09, and that one I had only upgraded the video card and HD to a SSD since.

>>51778854
I'm a USA fag. When Skylake initially came out, it was out of stock for more than a month. When it finally came back in stock, I quickly jumped to buy it. I happened to get very lucky because I've seen the price rise as well here. But yes the 950 is amazing, I have the 512GB. If you going Skylake, you must go nvme.
>>
>>51778854
About the m.2 sticks, be careful. There are a few really fast ones, and a bunch of meh speed ones. Read the specs carefully.
>>
>>51778976
As far as I know, my only concern is that the SSD has to support the faster PCIe interface instead of SATA. I don't understand where the NVMe falls in this but, other m.2 SSD that are still on SATA are just like regular SSDs, but in stick form.
>>
>>51778394
I just upgraded my i7 920 to a i5 6600. No regrets.
>>
>>51780835
Neither do I.
>>
>>51780471
950 pros get insanely hot.
like, hot enough that the countermeasures scale down performance to keep it from frying itself.
>>
>>51778377

what games you playin?
>>
>>51782199

I'm not sure you browse the same /g/ I do.
>>
>>51778377
damn 6700k run cool
>>
>tfw 6700k for $350

frys/microcenter are where its at as far as actually buying cpus

>>51778394
I went 920 to 6700k and HOT DAMN its an upgrade
>>
>>51782315
>frys/microcenter are where its at as far as actually buying cpus
even then (i have access to a micro center) i'm still not convinced that's worth it over an 1150.
>>
>>51782406
It is. Why not buy the latest and greatest? The 6600k isn't even expensive. Same price as old cpus.

Also ddr4.
>>
>>51782512
i'm a jew in spirit, and it's a short slippery slope from that to Haswell-E
>>
>>51778823
I'm using an i7 that's 5 gens behind (970) and have not the slightest amount of bottlenecking. It really goes hand in hand with benchmarks.
>>
>>51782540
You might not be 100% use pegged all the time but you WILL get fps in games.
>>
>>51780471
M.2 is exclusively PCIe. If it's on the SATA bus, wtf, it's not m.2, it's mSATA. There are some m.2 out that have the same rated read and write speeds as the 2.5" SDDs. What is the point of those? To simply trap you into thinking that you're awesome.
>>
>>51782728
it was simply for backward slot compatability

there's no deception. your mSATA EVO will still go 500MB/s
>>
>>51778078
this
also why pay extra for i7 if you only want 4 cores
