Of course not.

The point is: This thread is about «Enjoyable /g/ approved games» and not «Technology high-tier /g/ games» so it's a >>>/v/ level thread and don't belongs to /g/.
>>
>>51770691
Neat game. Helps with problem solving and working with limited resources.
>>
Aurora, NetHack, Meridian 59
>>
Pretty /g/. You build machines and computers, set in the future, retarded interface like /g/ loves in games like DF.

Also, I know that station is a mess, we're building it from nothing, we started in the bottom right corner.
>>
>>51770702
But I like it

Not everything has to be /g/ approved, just because it's a program.

Can I use codewars to learn or practice assembly?

I love that game, it's a classic.

>>51770795
Space Station 13. Technically it's an online roleplaying game where people perform jobs on a space station. People can be scientists, engineers, androids, artificial intelligences etc. Every round shit tends to go down in the form of meteors hitting the station, antagonists coming aboard the station fucking shit up. Most servers aren't build stations, but mine is. Doesn't have much of a playerbase because most people play SS13 for the roleplay/crazy shit going down, but I appreciate it for its building aspects. You need to wire to transfer electricity, need to build shit to generate that electricity, you need atmospherics (game has an actual atmosphere on each tile, your character actually needs to breathe oxygen 20% oxgen 80% nitrogen rougly at 103ish kPA or you'll suffocate, space will kill you and air pressure differentials can kill you. Just about anything that can kill you in real life will kill you. It's a very silly game but with a lot of depth.

The one bad thing is that it runs on the shitty engine/programming language known as BYOND.
>>
>>51770647
Shitty graphics and shitty writing, with a improved gameplay at least compared to the previous, and still shitty code.
No.
>>
>>51770787
How accurate is TIS-100 and corewars compared to real life assembly?
>>
>>51770833
Thank you very much based anon. My gf is a lot into astronomy, space science and all that shit, I'm sure she will love it.
>>
>>51770858
Hope she's patient because the interface can be a struggle at first. Also, there's much to learn.
>>
>>51770876
We're gonna play together, will learn together. As of the interface, her favorite game is Tibia, so I think she will not mind.
>>
>>51770853
TIS-100 is assembly like the real life one and corewars is some variant or smth like that
>>
>>51770876
Also, here is my mail [email protected]

If you want to teach noobs, you might end up with gaming partners and friends.
>>
>>51770898
I suggest you take the plunge on one of the milder servers for SS13 like Baystation, it focuses on medium roleplay so you aren't required to be completely in character all the time and the overall experience isn't as chaotic as on servers like /vg/'s.

You could always host your own server, but all that information coming at you at once and with nobody to explain it to you? It's going to be rough.
>>

Kek
>>
>>51770960
No see, Baystation is better for newcomers due to the heavy roleplay and smaller playerbase. Let them get adjusted before they join the true insanity on servers like /tg/ and /vg/.

>>
>>51771297
I thought by definition they were games that used a video display?
>>
>>51771297
Not necessarily, there are a lot of games that clearly weren't meant to be played by children, most of the time due to the level of complexity, difficulty, learning curve etc.

Take AI War: Fleet Command. There's not a single kid unless they're heavily autistic that could even begin to grasp the game's basic mechanics.

Also, when video games were invented, the majority audience was actually adults and young adults who could afford spending dollar after dollar on arcade machines and such when they released. Remember, the first person to play a video game was a fucking scientist, and then he shared it with his colleagues and they all ended up playing it. That's how video games were born, not for children but for pure entertainment.

No, it's actually the lighting engine that's a lot better than anything we had in 2007. It also has a much higher polygon count. Particle effects are also a lot better.

On top of that, they really did a good job with the art direction, none of that piss filter, potato face fallout 3 shit.

Good meme though.

>I play video games in 20s
>>
>>51771493
Nothing wrong with that in the eyes of the general public, or at least where I live. Most people grew up playing video games with their siblings, so there's still a decent male to female ratio of people playing video games, but of course those ratios vary wildly from game to game. My mother and father both enjoyed playing video games, moreso my father who played the heck out of games like Tomb Raider.

Redcode is pretty similar to regular assembly but redcode wouldn't be usable in the real world because there are very few instructions and the machine it runs in is impractical for real world usage.

I disagreed with you on the graphics. The animations were also improved on from the previous game, although the difference is not as abysmal as the sudden improvement in the graphics.

You can go on and complain about how it's still buggy, flawed, and that NV had more weapons, or that you don't like the animations, among other things, but that would just be getting farther away from what we were originally discussing, and the truth is, you cannot deny that you were proven wrong in your original claim that "it looks like a 2007 game with some filters thrown in".

You also have to look at the return of your time spent though. Gaming may or may not be "childish", but there are many better ways to spend your free time - and playing vidya doesn't really improve you as a person.

>Jogging, hitting the gym, or calisthenics - makes you attractive and live longer
>Reading or writing - makes you more knowledgeable
>Listening to music - gives you something to talk about w/ hipster chicks
>Programming - good for jobs
>Collecting stamps - no one really does this?

Hand-Eye coordination, knowing everything about Tamriel or Azeroth lore, and "strategic planning" or whatever don't really have much value in the real world. That's why people generally frown towards the "I'm a gamer" crowd. The only thing that may stretch this is MMO games where you need to be social - in where you would have to learn social interaction/dynamics, however this is usually with Brazilians or other spergs so it doesn't really mean anything, people would still criticize you for how poorly you allocate your time.

This is not a mobile phone board, Anon. I'm not much into gaymes myself, but I have to admit Space Station 13 and Dwarf Fortress are pretty /g/.

I mean Dwarf Fortress is so weird and detailed that if you are into systems, you must be intrigued by the game. From the way people get sick in the game to the simulation of hydraulics and climate, it's doing things radically different with /g/-level of autism. I can only wonder what the code looks like.

lol, ok. I meant if you guys can recommend wargames you found interesting.

Oh, and what was the name of the game where you have to write JS code to move a character to the exit of every level?

On and Uplink was pretty cool /g/ themed game. I'm surprised nobody mentioned it. Yes, before some script kiddy complains, it's not a realistic simulation of hacking, and you can complain about that only if you expected to become the next Zero Cool by playing a video game.

>On and Uplink was pretty cool /g/ themed game.

Uplink was fun. Considering the game was from 2001, they did a remarkable job of predicting how things went in the real world: compromising systems on behalf of shadowy third parties, markets for bulk stolen data as a commodity, spearphishing by targeting sysadmins, money laundering, onion routing, etc... but more importantly than being realistic (the hacking part is anything but realistic) they made it fun.
