Hi guys, my friend is looking to get a new gaming pc under 700$ and he asked for my help. I got a g3258(at 4.2) with r9 280 last xmas and I only have good things to say about it all new games flawless on ultra. So naturally we built it around g3258 because its still dirt cheap compared to i3/5s. My question is if you guys think r9 290x is too much for this cpu, are there any cpu+gpu combos that are better for gaming in the same price range (around $400 for those two)

It is god tier for a budget pc.
But it is way to weak for a 290x.
It will bottleneck.
OC g3258 + 280x or 960 is the sweet spot.

It was an ok cpu who's value was new to Intel users. The 860k would be the God tier cpu for that price range but I would prefer to have an upgrade to an I5 or I7 devils canyon then a 6300/8350.

if we only get 960 i guess we can get an i5-4460 so the build last longer

under 700$?
i mean if its like 600ish just get an i5
my 400$ pc is still ok for gaming i still can get 100 frames in csgo in medium
g3258
gt 730
8gb ram
asus h81m k
$700 should get you a build with a 290/x and 8350. 3258 is too weak.

700$ will get you an i5 4460,h81 board,8 gigs ddr3,r9 390 ,1tb hdd and an evga PSU. So recommending shit to people

One of these if you're american.
No, get an octacore or go home

Some games like Far Cry 4 already cant be launched with a dual core on board, 4 threads seem to be the minimum you should get.

thats a plain lie, i can run it at ultra settings.
