I got bored and coded some on my thinkpad 755CD with a Pentium 75.

Seriously programming in and of itself takes NO processing power whatsoever. You can do it in a text editor if you really wanted to.

Or... If you run a bloated IDE it could be semi resource-intensive.

Something from a rasp PI to like an i3 would suffice for the new programmer.
