Updating right now, is it just a bugfix release or is there anything noteworthy?

OS X offers a multilayered defense system against viruses and other malicious apps, or malware, with virtually no effort on your part. For example, through a technique called “sandboxing,” OS X prevents hackers from harming your programs. Sandboxing restricts what actions programs can perform on your Mac, what files they can access, and what other programs they can launch.

Other automatic security features include Library Randomization, which keeps malicious commands from finding their targets, and Execute Disable, which protects the memory in your Mac from attacks.

>Library Randomization
TOP KEK! On Windows you need to install third party system obfuscation software to get this same level of basic security

>>51767907
>chrome's rendering engine lagging is somehow OS X's fault.

ASLR has been available in windows since vista
>>
>>51768955
ASLR is not Library Randomization, aka system api obfuscation.

>ITT people who know terms but don't understand them
Stay neEt my friend
>>
>>51768955
ASLR is the analogue of Execute Disable, you fuckwit

when are you gonna get a face to express when you realised windows ships with less built in security than OSX ever had?

I was thinking about getting a macbook pro retina 13.3 for school. I read a lot of pdfs (med school) and thought that maybe the display quality would be best for how I plan to use it, also the battery life and it is light.

People on this board are spreading disinformation about apple devices on purpose.

I remember when the original youtube video was posted. TL;DR: he fucked up the update and a regular SMC reset fixed it. This video doesn't resemble the regular performance.

El Capitan perfectly smooth on my 2014 MBA, and significantly better than Windows 7 on comparable hardware by the way.

rMBP 13.3 is probably the best option for that purpose.

Did you already use a Mac before? If not, at least try to use one and see if you are willing to do the transition.

>>51769315
I've used them years ago in college libraries.
>>51769297
I have a samsung tab pro for that, it is great but I feel a computer would be a little more convenient working at my desk.
>>
I'm still using Yosemite Sam
Is El Capitan any good?
>>
>>51769372
it's way better, but OSX has been going down hill since snow leopard.

I just hope they don't go full retard and wind up like vista. Windows 10 is pretty much on par with OS X now.
>>
>>51769372
What are you doing m8? El Capitan is Yosemite on steroids. Metal animations are sexy, virtually no lags anymore.

I'd say the bug fixes are the most important, but if you like animations that fine too.
>>
>>51769418
I switched because I wanted simplicity. but slowly apple have introduced things like popup notifications (and doing shit like telling me about the latest safari), notification pane, the app store, heaps of crap. I just want to do my work. If it wasn't for the terminal / near POSIX i'd drop it

windows has removed all their crap since vista. metro is gone, plus they fixed the menu. I'd use it for my main OS if it wasn't for the telemetry

apple did improve many things like full screen / side by side windows and make safari awesome. but everything they fixed they added in more crap to get in my way
>>
>>51769488
I actually haven't encountered too many bugs currently, which was why I decided not to update immediately.

After reading all of this, I guess I'll update tonight
>>
>>51769490
just disable anything you don't like in the settings anon, are you retarded?
>>
>>51769490
>windows has removed all their crap since vista.
ahahahahaha, what about that horrible ribbons crap? That shitty metro-stuff is still everywhere, two versions of regular apps. And those horrible convoluted settings menu's they've had all over the place since Vista? And that horrible handling of multi-windowed applications? Windows is a literal mess.

Also, implying popup notifications are a bad thing.

There is absolutely no need for a third party anti virus in windows unless you have a brain of a 6yo. They're serious memory hogs and do no better than windows defender that ships with w10. Infact wd has been rated better than paid antivirus sw. BTW Microsoft has been in the av business almost since windows itself, osx doesn't even qualify as an at risk os because no one gives a shit
