The NSA/FBI by default keep an eye on you by collecting all your data/metadata they can get hold off.
It will probably be used against you only if you try to stop their growing control, because that seems to be the only thing they care about.

there has been confirmation from leaky taps that the data gathering programs do not help with terrorist attacks more than standard boots on the ground intel does.

You don't need to do anything, OP. Everything you have ever done online has been archived somewhere and linked to your identity.
Actual human eyes will only look at your history if:
- you use the wrong keywords with enough frequency
- you show up in the social graph of a person of interest
- you get elected to public office, and have authority over the NSA's budget
- the archives are inevitably hacked, and your activity is posted online for everyone to see, a la the Ashley Madison hack.
