I'm still running on a 770. It's being backed by a 4820k @ 4.2 and 16gb quad channel DDR3 @1600. I know my cpu will be good for a few years (liquid cooling too) and I'll probably never need more RAM. I'm worried about my 770 keeping up. Should I replace it for 2016+? What hardware is /g/ running?
Get a R9 390 and stay away from the current Nvidia generation.

you really shouldn't upgrade from a 770 though, SLI might be ok since you can find used 770s dirt cheap. you're better off just waiting desu.

Don't rush into it, if you are blessed with patience wait it out and see what pitfalls nvidia has setup next.
I only upgraded to get into VR early otherwise I'd still be waiting it out on my HD6870 and 955BE until a decent 4K card comes out and I can get my hands on a 32"~42" 60fps IPS 4k display for a reasonable price.
I've tried nvidia for once, a fair bit overpriced performance wise otherwise but the GPU has been serving me well. I still feel keked after the whole "full" DX12 ordeal. Hopefully VR isn't butchered on Maxwell in favor of pascal.
The signs were all there, crippling kepler with excessive tesselation and driver neglect, and 970 false advertisement as 4GB card with higher ROP count.
I don't usually get the latest AAA releases and don't upgrade regularly so AMD would've been a better fit for me. Going to switch back to AMD midrange if they don't fuck up immensly once performance improvement over 980 doubles. Which coincidentally is just about good enough for 4k at 8GB VRAM.
770 is gimped tier - the 7970ghz (its competition) crushes a 770 all day every day. Pic is just 1080p - as resolution climbs all AMD cards get faster relative to their Nvidia equivalents.

I was young and stupid and jumped on the hybrid-crossfire hype train (to be fair, running skyrim at 60fps for under £400 was a good feeling).
Cut my losses with the best bang-for buck GPU I could afford a couple of years ago, will likely upgrade to an i5 system once the CPU hits around £150.
