Good, companies have no need to be flying objects of any size into the airspace without proper training and authorization.
>>
>wanting close to home constant surveillance
No thanks. Drones are cool but him shooting it down and not getting in trouble is a step in the right direction.
Shouldn't have been on private property anyways.

Private property does not extended into airspace infinitely. However, the drone flew low enough for it to be considered a breach of private property.

>>
>>51755034
The issue being that it might not have been on his property and the judge didn't even care to find out.

If they were close enough, shooting them down would be illegal. AA missiles would be classed as destructive devices which I'm pretty sure are next to impossible for the average joe to own regardless of the cost of owning a functional AA platform, missile.

Do you think it's okay for a drone to be flying anywhere on your personal property it wants and doing what it wants on there without your consent?
I know I don't and unless you're actively supporting complete and total government surveillance you shouldn't be okay with it either.

Unless the drone user has successfully completed pilot school, taken all the regulation cert tests, and was cleared by the FAA for that flight that drone should not be in the air to begin with.

I've even go as far as wanting to see gps tracking on all authorized drones in order for the FAA to watch over them for abuse.
>>
>>51756624
We'll have to do this with all of those mini rc helicopters that are popular these days too. Hell, might as well do the same for boomerangs and paper air planes while we're at it.
>>
>>51756663
Rc helicopters are classified as drones.

A boomerang and paper air place are vastly different than a drone and if you can't see the difference then you are retarded.

>>

>>
>>51756792
Rockets, yes they need to be cleared by the FAA depending on the altitude it'll reach.

Also you almost always need to be cleared by your local county before as well.

Large balloons like weather balloons are almost certainly the same
>>
>>51754805
There's probably going to be laws passed soon in various places that will make it illegal to fly drones in residential areas.
>>
>>51756624
That still doesn't deal with the issue of what qualifies as your property. Maybe I just don't know of the law, but in regards to drones and the like is there a property height minimum they must stay above? "Below the tree line" is ridiculously arbitrary.

The reason the guy shot the drone wasn't because he guy didn't have the correct certs or it wasn't cleared by the FAA, but that the guy considered it in his properly (as if that somehow constitutes a danger automatically).
>>
>>51756864
Do you want 6,000 amazon drones flying at all hours over your house every single day.
>>
the judge fucked up since she didnt even review all of the evidence, the logs (which can be edited so they arent very valuable) and there was actually a video of the crash was available, but in the end it was simply brought back to witnesses which are unreliable.

the only real precedence is that case with the 83 foot ceiling, and even that could be argued. however, if these things are considered aircraft does that mean the next time someone flies an ultralight over my house i can shoot at them and potentially kill them?

doesnt mean shit for drone delivery because anyone who actually knows about this stuff (aka: not dji owners) realize that drone delivery is 100% impractical
>>
>>51757504
That 83 foot ceiling seems way too low to me. Hell, I've got trees on my property that are 100+ ft tall, does that mean that someone can build a treehouse in the top of one without my knowledge and then proceed to just camp out up there, getting supplies delivered by drone/helicopter while I can't even charge them with trespassing on my property unless I catch them below 83'?

This is why the FAA wants to regulate drones. If a certain altitude is determined to be drone space shooting them down will become illegal, just like you aren't allowed to shoot down planes or helicopters flying legally over your property.

Police drones are already authorized to carry tasers and other weapons. It wouldn't be a stretch for private companies using these drones to request a police drone escort for exactly this situation.
>>
>>51758001
That drone is not a quadcopter like the earlier videos. It's a VTOL craft.
>>
>>51759344
This. There's a county park out by the lake near where I live that has had RC aircraft facilities for like 30 years. There's a small asphalt runway, a covered awning, a couple of bathrooms, and a large lawn area for spectators. They hold RC plane/helicopter competitions there occasionally and they'll set up a concession stand and bring in some stadium seating, my dad used to take me out there when I was a kid, it was really neat. There's no reason for people to be flying their spy-drones over my house/yard.
>>
>>51759437
If you're dumb enough to fire at a police drone, you deserve it.
>>
>>51759464
> There's no reason for people to be flying their spy-drones over my house/yard.

What if the your house happens to be in-between the best flight path between the "spy-drone"'s home location and the pizza shop it's trying to get a delivery from? You can't assume it's trying to spy on you.

Hell the drones will probably all have public profiles you can ping to see who they are and where they're going. It's not like they're going to let this go completely unregulated.
>>
>>51759335
Yes you're right, we should keep it so the barrier of entry is basically the cost of buying the drone so any idiot can turn themselves into a flying weapons .

Why even regulate anything when terrorists can just get around it, amirite?
>>
>>51759563
RC helicopters have been a thing for decades. Any moron can strap a bomb to one and fly it into a crowd.
>>
>>51759587
RC helicopters have a very limited range compared to a drone and they also have very little carrying capacity.

Modern drones are much better in all regards.
>>
I mean really why even have laws?

Terrorists and criminals just ignore them so it's not like it stops them.
>>
>>51759552
Then they can fly over at 1000', the same minimum suggested altitude (for safety purposes) as regular aircraft. Or hell, even 500' wouldn't bother me too much. I'd have a major problem with them flying below the tree-tops though.

Realistically, a shotgun's maximum effective range when using loads made for duck or geese (the same loads I would choose for drone-shooting) is only around 70 yards, so a drone flying at 250'-300' above ground level wouldn't have anything to fear from most gun-toting bubba's.
>>
>>51758565
That's not at all the same thing and you know it you shit chugger

>Any moron can strap a bomb to one and fly it into a crowd.
You couldn't get the things to carry more than a few hundred grams.
Some current generation cellphones would be too heavy for them.
>>
>>51760160
Yes, buckshot would reach but 00-buck in regular 12ga shells only have 9 pellets, 3" magnum shells only hold 12 pellets and 3.5" magnum shells hold 18 pellets. At 70+ yards the pattern will be so wide and shot density so low that it will be pure luck to have a pellet hit the drone unless you use an extremely tight choke (like an overfull turkey choke) and then you're going to have trouble hitting a target flying in the air because your pattern will be too small, even moreso if you try to use slugs.

Bubba shoots said drone down because muh property
Lose $2000 worth of parts. Have to file claim with Amazon. They have to actually believe that it was taken down by someone other than me to try and scam free stuff
Back and forth phone tag and email game to finally get approved for another order of stuff for the same price I originally bought it for.
Gets shot down AGAIN because drone protocol/pilot was never taught to fix their original mistake
Amazon denies your claim out of suspicion
Good luck fighting that shit, and even more luck to drag a company like Amazon yo claims court over it too.

Drones are fucking stupid as a means of delivery other than military or federal needs. This is because only military and federal are allowed large enough drones that can/are allowed to fly high enough to be viable. Rather have a careless delivery driver than a drone that miscalculated its height and dropped my fragile package on my porch from 8 feet in the air.

>>
>>51758254
How the fuck does a drone impede them from doing their jobs? A big ass helicopter, versus a tiny little drone. You do the math.

Also, it's the same as being on the road. If a fire truck is responding to an emergency, and you don't pull over when you hear it, and they hit you, it's your fault. Although in the case of a drone getting hit by a helicopter, there wouldn't be near as much damage to the helicopter.
>>
>>51760543
Why don't you read the fucking article instead of being an idiot?

>"As soon as we see drones, we shut down all of our aircraft for the safety reasons ... If a drone got sucked into a wing or a propeller, that could have some serious impacts."
>>
>>51760543
dont be stupid, while the odds of one of those things damaging a rotor is small, a collision could cause a crash if it hits the windscreen or gets inducted into the fan of a turbine, having something like that flying around active aircraft is 100% fucking retarded.

and if anyone bothered to actually look into those firefighting stories, they would realize that the 'drones' in question were RC aircraft operating at a designated rc aircraft area. the police showed up, told them what was happening, and they stopped. it is as simple as that

do you think people had fucking phantoms sitting in their cars, batteries charged, and just happened to be there? fuck no, not to mention once those things get 500 feet in the air you can barely see it in the sky, much less go to 1000+ feet and be able to have any sort of control over it without the proper video feed being sent back

>>
>>51760764
i wasnt anyone you were talking to earlier, but my main point was those news articles were grossly misrepresenting what was going on and what was actually in the air

and a collision between one of those things and a real aircraft is nothing to be understated and there is a reason a pilot would be weary. you could relate it to fucking birds or something, but birds will at least try to get the fuck out of the way instead of going in for a good shot
>>
>>51760764
>I was simply stating that it most likely wouldn't cause much damage to a fucking helicopter.

On the off-chance it does do damage to the helicopter you're looking at losing a multi-million dollar aircraft along with everyone on board and possibly innocent bystanders on the ground that it crashes into.

Even if it didn't do "much" damage, a small amount of damage to a helicopter can easily cost thousands of dollars to repair and the aircraft will be grounded until it can be inspected by certified aircraft technicians so the owner/operator would lose out on flight time / profits until it was cleared to fly again. The FAA is very strict when it comes to things like this and there are guidelines that pilots must follow when encountering obstructions and other potential hazards while in flight and the pilot could lose his pilot's license if he chooses to ignore those guidelines.

If you've actually read into what happened, this is basically what happened:
>Redneck hates drones thinking all people do with is is snoop on their neighbors
>Neighbor gets a drone to play around with
>Neighbor starts doing aerial photography with it
>Always flies at about 200 feet
>One day as he's doing aerial photography at 200 feet the connection from the drone to the controller drops
>Drone is programmed to return to where it set off if the connection is broken
>Redneck saw drone fly past his house
>Goes in to get his gun
>As he's coming out the drone's coming the other way after the connection broke
>Redneck shoots the drone with his hunting rifle and it comes plummeting down
>Lands pretty close to the edge of his property
>Neighbor and his friend come to retrieve their drone
>Redneck threatens to shoot them with his handgun if they try to retrieve their property
>Claims that the drone was hovering over his house at under treetop level and filming his daughter sunbathing
>On-board camera and telemetry show that none of this was true
>Didn't hover over his house, flew at 200 feet (i.e well above the tree line) and didn't end up on his land until he shot it down
>Thing went to court
>Neighbors of the redneck naturally say the same thing when they're called as eye witnesses (neighbor who owned the drone didn't get to call eye witnesses and actually had to leave the court room for most of the trial)
>Judge didn't even look at the telemetry or the video recorded by the on-board camera or declare them inadmissible as evidence
>Drone owner will naturally now sue the redneck in civil court he's got the camera footage and telemetry to prove that the drone didn't fly over his house until after he had shot it

Once again, it hit one of the propellers and it was enough to take it down.

>>51761269
The video may have been edited to cut out parts where nothing happened, but still clearly shows that the drone was well above the tree tops and not hovering over his property filming his daughter suntanning like the redneck claimed. Telemetry on the other hand was completely intact and confirms the story.

Should have given the data to the police that same day when they were called and the drone was recovered.

Taking it home, and possibly tampering with any of it or using another previous one is a sure fire way to get thrown out in court.

Yeah this desu. You can't just submit evidence on the spot. You have to be sure it's not tampered with.

So how would you go about making a way to knock these down? i was thinking a turret from a laser cutter and having it track them. would the beam be enough to roast a drone from a couple hundred feet?

Can't people legally film your property?
>>
>>51754922
Then why weren't rc helicopters, model rockets, or on string model planes banned. They're no different than a drone, and like toys have been around since the 20's
>>
>>51762866
the difference is cameras, it becomes an invasion of privacy issue and should be a criminal offense just that same as peeping, and secretly recording people in private situations
>>
>>51762866
All of which are well regulated and have designated areas.

Small time toys are just an exception to the rule and are practically no harm nor do they go that far.

If you actually were big into bigger model planes, let alone rockets, you'd know that there are lots of rules in place on what you have to legally do when operating them.

>pilot school for a fucking drone

>>51762894
Idk where you live, but from my childhood, and time spent with my cousins son, these regulations are very loose in most of NA. unregulated, and cheap model planes and rockets with large potential for damage have been available for a while.
Then again, my experience only spans Canada, and the northern 20 or so states.
