Probably not
>>
It will never happen.

There will probably never be a dominant mainstream desktop Linux platform, but only because the mainstream will instead be dominated by handheld devices.

Desktop systems are becoming things only for professionals and enthusiasts. This is not a bad thing.

does he ever change his fucking clothes? It seems like every recent video and picture I've seen of him he is wearing the same red shirt and tan pants

2016 is the year of the ARM laptop

Even Apple will come out with an ARM ultrabook this year.

I have 15 shirts in that color. Though they're long sleeve polos.
I also buy socks of the same brand/color in 30 pair packs so I never need to sort them from everyone else's stuff after a wash.

No. And it never will be. I love Linux, I use it exclusively, but it has always been and will remain a desktop OS for enthusiasts. It's not even about how good it is, or how user friendly you can make it. Winshit is so entrenched in peoples minds, people are used to it and the market is geared towards it. 90% of users have no desire whatsoever to learn how to run a fucking update in Ubuntu, even if it is just as easy as in Winshit, because it looks slightly different and they're not down with that. Gaymenfags aren't going to run shit through wine even if PoL is easy as shit to use, nor are they down with waiting until a game can run decently.

It's just the way it is, and that's ok, Linux continues to improve despite it all because that's just the way open source works, by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, market shares be damned.

Many older men will get this condition. He's gassy as fuck, basically. Not even joking, the guy probably floats like a cork in water. My grandfather had the same thing. He should watch out though, due to lots of sour burping associated with it it lends you susceptible esophageal cancer (what ol' gramps died of, incidentally)

Vulcan might make Linux desktops more popular but you will still have the same problem. Only a handful of distrobutions worth a shit. If all the major developers would pool their resources together Linux could be better then Windows in every category but we all know that won't happen ever. Instead we get stuck with over a hundred distributions that are buggy peices of shit. Not to mention a community full of elitist neckbeards who fight over the littlest shit. I would love the year of the Linux desktop to actually happen but I really doubt it ever will.
>>

>being a "sandwich man" lacks dignity
I bet the elitist fucking cunt is glad they exist when he feels the need to stuff his fat face though. God, people like this piss me off. Every job needs doing, if it didn't need doing no one would pay people to fucking do it (possible exception to this rule would be investment bankers).

And no, I don't work at Subway or MickeyD's, though I did as a young lad. It's possible to not be an elitist cunt and have a higher paying job at the same time.

come at me stallman, I DARE you to prosecute me for violating your copyright. It'd make for a great headline: FSF FOUNDER AND OUTSPOKEN "COPYLEFT" PROPONENT FILES LAWSUIT CLAIMING COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!!"

Like 12.04 and 14.04 before it, 16.04 is really looking up for Ubuntu in terms of "completetion" and the decision to replace their existing Software Center is going to do much good for those who don't want to use cli on linux (e.g. most people).

ChromeOS is also graining plenty of traction, so I can see Ubuntu desktop users increasing and ChromeOS users keep growing as they are now.

I still firmly believe Unity's openGL desktop is straight up retarded and alienates a lot of lower-end hardware that might want to run the promoted and classical Ubuntu desktop. Perhaps when old hardware starts fading out and the newer hardware becomes more common though.

Don't know but I'm finally switching because fuck Windows Botnet.
>>
>>51761126
me too anon... Windows 10 on a laptop is shit.

Be me... visit a customer (30 min wasted waiting for windows to become usable before update).

Laptop self wakes to install updates, in the middle of the night, on the metro, even on battery, pc goes hot and deplenishes battery.

Windows 10 was promising but they went full botnet.

So, it will be the year of the linux desktop for me at least.

>the decision to replace their existing Software Center
This is good! I've always found the USC laggy and incomplete. But... they're switching to GNOME Software instead? I just use Synaptic. Am I missing out on something? Can a "software center" do some other cool things? Or is it just for the normals?

>ChromeOS is also graining plenty of traction
ChromOS is a strange aberration, and I'm glad to learn that it's being merged into Android.

>I still firmly believe Unity's openGL desktop is straight up retarded and alienates a lot of lower-end hardware that might want to run the promoted and classical Ubuntu desktop.
Yeah. There's always Xubuntu, though.

I'm OK with the variety of distributions, but I agree, some of these distributions are complete garbage that serve no good advantages over some others. Just take a look at DistroWatch and you'll get a sense of it.
>>
It might just be 2016 the year of linux desktop.
>>
>>51753670
Oh god no. Please...just no.

Online forums are bad enough as it is, with stray normies that somehow managed to burn a live CD, now struggling to get Mint running, crying about drivers. People who can't even use google, let alone read a man page.

The linux user gene pool already needs a little bleach. Widespread adoption? I'll have to move to Haiku, or TempleOS.
>>
>>51753670
Not unless some major computer company starts selling laptops or something that ship with Linux instead of Windows
>>
>>51768593
This.
Widespread userbase is not a good thing.

Just look at windows, they spend way too much making it fool-proof (and people still manage to fuck up)
