Accidentally deleted my windows partitions while installing arch Linux. I have a Windows installation DVD but haven't been tempted to go back ever since u got arch running and got it somewhat comfy.
But answer me this, /g/. Why does arch load slower than Windows?
Also are load times between SSD and Hard drives significant with arch? Is it worth it to have it on my SSD?, will the SSD last as long?

load times in what lol that question literally gives me no information at all as to what you are asking me and im running arch and literally everything ive done on it is faster (even gaymes)
>>51753303
if you speak about the boot time, Arch boots faster on my PC than Win10 (both installed on an SSD)

You can't play games on Linux anon!
>>51753303
>arch load slower than Windows
U wot m8?
Time it takes to load up parabola, startx, and finish loading startup programs: 2 minutes
Time it takes for win7 to start up and load startup programs and stop lagging: 10+ minutes

>Why does arch load slower than Windows?
Not on my machine™
But seriously, you probably bloated your init to hell.

b-but arch uses stystemd...

>Systemd has been used as the Linux init system to bootstrap the user space and manage all processes subsequently,
I hope you just be trolling me.

Damn that's fast. It's a shame Linux only has a few good games like Dying Light.

3 seconds? On an SSD or HDD? apart from firebox, rvxt, openbox and gedit I Haven't installed anything else yet. On my hard drive I have around like 6 or so seconds after post until I'm prompted to log in. I don't startx automatically BTW.
Should I install arch on my SSD while I'm still relatively fresh?
>>51754654
Yes, that's on SSD.
An OS install is always better off on your SSD. Just use HDD for storing large files.
>>51754693
I'm not into the SSD doesn't last meme.
But what are the differences between having windows on an SSD or Linux on an SSD? Negligible? If anything I'd assume arch has to r/w a lot less than Windows because of all of the built in junk it comes with. Will I still get a few years with it?
>>51754730
I upgraded all my machines, except for one to SSD.
1 Arch PC running on SSD für just over 4 years now
2 Arch Laptops running on SSD for just under 3 years
1 FreeBSD Server running on SSD for about 2 years now
I haven't faced any problems so far. I did, however, have to replace 3 broken SSDs in a friends Win7 PC during the last 2 years. Not sure if he's just unlucky, buys shitty SSDs or if you need to tell Win7 that it's running on a SSD.
