Here is what will happen. Intel will release i9 chip and obsolete the i3.

So the i3 becomes i5, i5 becomes i7 and i7 becomes i9. All prices will go up.

Plebs will think that greater number will lead is greater speed. But in fact, speed will stay the same.
>>
I thought 3/5/7 was some kind of magic marketing numbering?

More companies use it, not just Intel.
>>
>>51752556
What other companies?

BMW? (until very recently)

I9 will have 9 cores

aren't they supposed to be core numbers? or was it thread?
fuck, I can't google right now, sorry.
>>
This is the next step.

>i3 = 4C/4T
>i5 = 4C/8T
>i7 = 6C/12T
>>
>>51752786
Its definitely not core numbers you muppet.

Isn't hyperthreading a mem?
>>
>>51752819
>Intel having any incentive to give goys more cores
Ahahaha no. Unless Zen pulls off an absolute miracle that's not going to happen.

The current lineup makes a lot of sense, it just sucks for consumers.
>>
introducing a new processor would not be beneficial to them at all. you have to remember most of their consumers are retards. they finally have a system that makes senses to the layman, why would they ruin that?
>>
>>51752819
not entirely true with the i7 since it has a huge range of different cores and threads. i5 has a 2core variant too.

I really like my 2500k, OCed to 4.6 like a champ, but my motherboard feels so dated. It only has one 4-pin fan header.

Me too m8. I'd seriously be ok with something like Sandy Bridge performance as long as it isn't hotter than the surface of the sun

No, they'll just increase the price.
Maybe.

I mean the problem intel has is that the higher the prices, the less chips they'll sell.
>>
>>51753050
>6 core i5s
No
>>
>>51753061
Maybe they could cut some more corners. Plastic heatspreaders? Paper bag instead of a box?
>>
>>51752780

When I was ultra tech illiterate I actually thought 3/5/7 referred to the number of cores

>>
>>51753669
What do the numbers mean then
>>
>>51753782
Price margin.

i3 = 300%
i5 = 500%
i7 = 700%
>>
>>51753782
They don't mean anything
>>
>>51753792

>>
I don't know why they don't call their 6-8 core CPUs i9. They are still i7, even though the 4 core consumer level i7's are just i5 with hyperthreading.

This is the real next step:

>i3 = 3C/6T
>i5 = 5C/10T
>i7 = 7C/14T
>>
>>51752780
It just will have 9MB cache hexacore/octacore.
>>
>>51753782
It's literally just branding/marketing.

It sorts their entire product line into 3 different groups for the average person who doesn't know shit about CPUs.

i3 = cheap, low performance
i5 = "normal price", mid-range performance
i7 = expensive, high performance

Normal people don't know what the # of cores/threads or clock speed means other than some general notion that "higher is better". They don't know what the SKU suffixes at the end of a processor's model# mean (the "K" at the end of 4690K, or the "U" at the end of 6567U). They don't know what TDP means and don't know what the L3 Cache is... All that shit is just noise to them so Intel came up with i3/i5/i7 to give normies some sort of idea about what they're buying. To most people, i3/i5/i7 means little more than low/medium/high.

except it's: medium/high/practically just as high but $100+ more because the kikes like to rip off normies on laptop sales
>>
>>51756087
Yes, but normal people don't realize that. It's proof that Intel's marketing scheme is working as planned.

It seems to be a good way to trick gaymers to buy i7s and people to buy shitty prebuilts with an i7, 16gb ram and a shit gpu.
>>
>>51755990
Except most really normal people don't even know if their processor is i3, i5, i7 - at best they know it's Intel, and maybe that it's Core 'something'.
