It would probably be cheapest and easiest for you to pick up one of the 6-core 1366 Xeon chips (5650's are going for $90-$100 on Ebay at the moment) and clock those up to 4Ghz than buy a new platform.

My 5650 does 2.667Ghz at 1.005 volts, 4Ghz at 1.2
But if you're wanting to run them harder I would suggest spending the extra $$$ for a 5670.

Above 4.4Ghz 5650's start running into the 4Ghz(8 Ghz indicated) QPI limitation. The extra 3x multi on a 5670 is worth it IMHO.

At 4.2-4.4Ghz these chips outperform 4790k's and AMD chips that are 4.8-5Ghz

The 280X is a rebranded 7970. the 290 is better.

AMD Phenom II x4 960T unlocked to a hex-core and running at 4.2GHz, had to pump 1.48v into it to do that. Still runs like a champ.

Agreed on the AMD love.

I massively regret leaving the 8350 and moving to an i7.

Sorry AMD, I've got more plans for the future.

My i52500 non K OCd to 3.8ghz (yfw I've had it up to 4.3) is still enough for my needs. Sure, those times I do get productive an i7 would have been better, but I'm not that good or productive often enough to warrant it.

I can kind of see buying a Skylake i5 if you wanted a strong quad core for the next few years but I can't make any sense of Skylake i7s at their current price when the 5820K exists.

>How so? Don't you notice it on the bills?

Not sure if jabbing at the price of the i7 4790k or the power draw of the 8350.

Either way the multitasking the 8350 provided destroys the i7 as far as I have discovered.

Run 10 mid level programs in the background and games bog to shit on the i7 4790k. Fuck this noise man. 10fps isn't worth it when you lose 50 nominally.

The 5820K is the 2500K of this generation of chips. Us 5820K bros will be chilling on our X99 platform for the foreseeable future while skymeme and haslel buyers are stuck upgrading in about 3-4 years because
>quad core.

All to save about 80 bucks (if that?) right now.
>>
>>51755354
Not only are you going to be disappointed by the upgrade, but you also won't be able to overclock it to compensate.

>>51755461
Good choice, the 4690k is still pretty good bang for buck and also overclocks like a beast.

Currently Q6600 master race, going to be building a new rig for Christmas with an Athlon 860k in it. Is the Athlon that much faster than the Q6600 at all?
>>
i5-4570

I didn't feel the need to buy an i7 processor back then, since I only use my rig to play some games, browse 4chan, and watch anime. i3 wasn't good enough for gaming, i7 was too much, so I went with this i5 CPU.
I also don't plan to overclock it, since I can play everything with it without a problem on 1080p (the bottleneck is my graphics card, which is a GTX 760).

Also have a 6700k.

Came from a Phenom II X4 955BE.

Opteron 185 before that.

Athlon 64 4000+ before that.

A few Athlon XP processors before that. (1800+, 2200+, 3200+)

Probably a Celeron and KII/III before that.

Some random Cyrix processor before that.

Whatever was in the IBM PS/2 in 1992ish.
>>
>>51750442

similar to you, 6700k and a 930 before that

930 was still performing well on games, but I needed the extra power of the 6700k for a task
