>>
>>51746153
Did hear open headphones are good if you wanted to hear from what direction something came from in-game.

Seems like the Philips ones aren't sold here anymore. The ad900x is 499 euro's here.
That leaves the Senheiser to be on the top.

They look hidious, but I guess you can't have everything, and I won't be walking with these things outside anyway. Just on my desktop and on the go with the laptop. Peformance is more important.

So, any other models that you recomment?
If not, I'm looking into these already.

I like my V-Moda Crossfade LP2's, but won 'em in a contest. So far they hold up better than the Bose SoundLink bluetooth ones I got as a gift.

I will warn you, they don't need much in the way of driving. '10' in Windows Audio is almost too loud.

It certainly isn't 'lacking' but headphones like the 990 and HD800 have more emphasis on midbass so it's hard to call it neutral or normalized.

IF chart showing a quite different story
>>
>>51746464
It varies.
>>
>>51746544
>that middle finger treble spike
every fucking time
>>
>>51746464
IF boosts the midrange zone a bit. Not that Marv uses an anatomical mounting or anything.
>>
>>51746558
6-8khz is much worse than 9khz for a treble spike to be fair. The most painful sibilance comes from there. But again, it varies from headphone to headphone and basing opinions on very specific parts of graphs is pretty stupid when you consider how much variance there is in just the graphs posted alone.
>>
>>51746596
it also depends from person to person. to me, 5-6k is terribly bad if too high.
>>
>>51746626
Of course, but for example if someone were to say "The DT880 are terrible headphones because they have a huge spike at 9KHz!".. Well, Marv's graph clearly shows a spike at 8KHz and a lesser one at 6KHz instead. Plus what about this newer DT880 measurement from Goldenears? (There hasn't been any changes To the DT880 at all, so it's not a revision or anything. Tyll got a similar measurement with the 32ohm model he had)
>>
>>51746702
yeah im not in that argument. ive never had any problems with treble on my 880s purchased 2 years ago, lovem through and through
>>

I've been wondering how GE makes measurements of headphones for a while, but variance is common and normal.

Closest thing to actual flat bass would be Etymotic ER-4B/S.

There's the definition.
Even so, Hifimans aren't nearly as dark as the Audezes. Bass is even.

I don't really consider it that way since resistive damping takes care of that. Not even worth considering a mod since a simple in-line attenuator does it.

Hey guys I need new full-sized headphones and could use some suggestions. US

My budget is 150$ or less. I'll be plugging them into the ACM of my Sound Blaster Zx. Most important thing is a comfortable headband, last few headsets i've had really dug into the top of my head giving me headaches so nice cushioning at the top of the head is important. I wear glasses so the cushioning and pressure around the ears needs to be somewhat soft. I need them to be closed-back as well.

Preferably nice audio quality for music/gaming but as long as they can make good use of my sound card and are very comfortable thats all I want. thanks in advance

The only way to objectively quantify headphone performance is via measurements.

Treble cannons. But they use the same driver in pretty much every model so are still a popular choice for modding and stuff. But if I was going down that path, I'd rather just toy around with some old orthos for the same price.

yes, you should always fiddle with eq. the 558 in general you want to raise the lower bass, reduce the upper-bass/ lower-mids a bit, increase upper mids. leave the highs alone though you can raise and lower a bit to your taste. all this after doing the foam mod of course. for the 598 I have 20-60hz raised by about 4db, 250-500 reduced by about 2db, 2k raised by 3db, treble flat.

yes. the back grill is slightly different but not enough to change the sound after the foam mod.

That chart is pretty bullshit. My 598s reach listening volume, and have no electrical noise, but they sound kinda muddy and underpowered without an amp. With a dac/amp they sound fucking amazing and the muddiness is suddenly completely gone.

Unless there's some other explanation for this of course.
>>

>>51756966
Not sure. 50 Ω, and I'm running off my motherboard (no sound card), so maybe?
>>
>>51756948
I understand and I totally agree on what you're saying. Despite having a relatively high sensitivity and low impedance, HD598 do require an amp. Most people here deny this fact because they simply associate amplification with loudness.
>>
>>51756990
Isn't 50 ohms just the nominal impedance of the 598?

>>51757031
>despite having a relatively high sensitivity and low impedance...require an amp.
That is not how that works. High sensitivity and high impedance need less power and are less subject to substandard amplifier decisions.
>associate amplification with loudness
Amplification is defined with a very similar definition: multiplying the value of the voltage field in the electronics, which directly corresponds to SPL(Volt to Pascal). Sound pressure to loudness is the Pa weighted against transfer curve of equal loudness.
>>
>>51757156
>Isn't 50 ohms just the nominal impedance of the 598?

Yeah.
>>
>>51757171
Motherboard impedance is all over the place, varies from a few Ohms to triple digits. I wouldn't know how they implemented it just from a parts list either.
Half the effect that impedance has is screwing up the FR anyway.

Earphone wires are made of a few dozen copper strands about the thickness of a human hair wrapped around a bit of fiberglass core. How many times do you think you can bend that before it breaks? That's your answer.

You can make the cable detachable to swap them out easily though.

HD598's impedance rises in the mid-bass and lower midrange. You really want a zero-ohm output impedance source for these headphones as a simple 10-ohm output impedance can make it sound a tiny bit muddy.

thanks a lot man, but since my options are really limited anyway, I'm going to list the jbl and jvc I can buy since those are the two brands that keep popping up. I prefer the neutral type of output (but I'm ok with other stuff) and I'm looking for a in-ear phone to use on the gym. I'll list how much I'll pay in local bucks so you have an idea if it's worth in relation to the others:

jbl T280A - 160 bucks
JBL-Synchros Reflect-I - 250

that's it apparently, all the JVCs were cups, full list in case you glance a good brand or something but it's mixed in-ear and cups: http://pastebin.com/PJvUzDyR

Help me /g/
I'm looking for a closed, over-ear pair of headphones around $150-250. Source pc and phone. Balanced sound with proper bass representation (no meme50x type bass)
AKG K550/K551 and the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 seem te be good options. The MSR7 design is 10/10 and it has a removable cable.

Which one should I choose? Are there other alternatives?
>>
>>51759595
But isn't Harman's Target Response Curve and others based on the fact that humans don't perceive flat headphone signatures the same as flat speaker signatures?
>>
>>51759554
>first dude says DT250 is more neutral, not better or worse.
Yes, but when certain people call a headphone more neutral here, they're implying that it's better.
>>
>>51759621
DT250, more neutral than MSR7/K550.

K550 is prone to bass leakage. I wouldn't recommend that.

DT250 also beats MSR7 in sound and comfort, it also has a removable cable.
