Tell me about PIA VPN. I've been caught torrenting movies by Verizon and warned once. I want to download a bunch of FLACs tommorrow as well as recent movie rips and not have to live in fear.

Does it actually werk?

Yes. I have been using it for a little over a year now. I only run it when torrenting though I will say the hit to me speed is virtually negligible. Easy to use, fast, cheap. No copyright notices.

Got a 25 Mb (Megabit for the retards) internet connection, I always connect to the California server as I've find that this one always gets me fast speeds (the same as my internet connection) Other servers are slower. I'm not from the USA by the way.

I bought their one year service for $29 a few days ago and I've been enjoying US-restricted shit.

Haven't tried it for torrenting but it will prevent you from getting additional warning.

How do you know if you haven't tried?
>>
>>51744667
Because your ISP won't be able to tell what you're doing when they see encrypted traffic from the VPN server.
>>
>>51744694
Let's say your doing really bad things like cp or planning jihad....won't you get discovered?
>>
>>51744721
This is my opinion but since it's US based, yes you will get discovered if you're seriously planning a terror plot or distributing CP, or other acts of evil.

But the NSA won't give a shit about you using it to download music, movies, porn, etc. as it's no threat to national security.

OP these guys are legit, been using it for years. First on Comcast, then Verizon. Got spooked by a warning like you, got pia, never a problem again. Look at their SOCKS5 proxy wiki for configuring your torrent client directly and you don't even need to start the little program pia makes you dl
>>
you have to know what you're doing

its better to use openVPN over their own client

DNS leaks don't matter.. just use google DNS

also you can use Windows firewall as a killswitch so your torrent client wont work as long as your VPN isnt active
>>
>>51744802
This and never use PIA's client.

Use OpenVPN if you need a client.

I recommend California's server like I said earlier. But YMMV.
>>
>>51744812
How do you set up the firewall for this?
>>
>>51744835
go to windows firewall with advanced security

click on inbound rules.. delete the QB/Utorrent/Deluge that are already there .. then just create new rule.. block application.. browse your clients .exe.. then click block for domain and private and leave public unchecked.. thats it
>>
>>51744821
I'm in California, use PIA, and my download speeds using open vpn cap out at around 1.5 MB/sec, when I have a 100 Mbps (~13 MB/sec) plan. :(
>>
>>51744950
Still 1 million times better than getting caught.
>>
>>51744968
What are your chances getting caught for FLACs, some vidya and niche porn as opposed to hollywood movies (like where i got caught)
>>
>>51745057
High enough that you should use a vpn senpai.

Also fuck verizon.

Got this email from them on the 30th of November, gonna switch to a different supplier because these bozos can't run a secure service

Dear Valued Customer,

On November 17, we were privately notified of an IP address leak vulnerability affecting the port forwarding feature of our service. Essentially, anyone connecting to a forwarded port on any of our VPN gateways could have their real IP address leaked to an attacker specifically targeting a PIA user.

Within 12 hours of the initial report, we developed and tested what we thought was a complete fix, and deployed it to all of our VPN gateways.

On November 26, the researchers who discovered the vulnerability made it public and we quickly noticed that our service was still vulnerable to the IP address leak in certain cases, despite our initial fix. After further investigation, we also realized there was a separate but related issue on our desktop client. To fix this issue we are releasing updated VPN apps to prevent any leaks. We released v.52 on November 27.

Protecting your privacy is our top priority and although exploiting this vulnerability is difficult and requires an attacker to specifically target you, we feel like we let you down with our initial response. Please accept our apologies, we are sorry.

Should I still sign up?
>>
>>51745130
They have the balls to admit when they do something wrong. I give them mad respect for that. Also who the fuck uses port forwarding anyway? I always use UDP with 256-aes encryption on a chinese server.
>>
>>51745156
Obviously the problem has been fixes eons ago. I don't trust any other vpn besides PIA. Just use UDP instead of TCP for faster speeds.
>>
>>51745198
portforwarding is for torrents
>>
>>51745497
What does that do? I always torrent with PIA and force tixati to use tcp port 80. I always get 4MB/s of download speed that way.

PIA: Pain In the Ass

Is expressVPN better than PIA?

Only problem with expressVPN is they don't provide DNS. This doesn't seem like a problem if I'm just using it for torrenting though.

What's the best way to have OpenVPN run everytime I boot up on GNU/Linux?
