So is there any ad blocker for android that works?
Also general android must have apps thread the non-tinfoilhat edition
I use AdAway found in the F-Droid app store
>non-tinfoilhat edition
fine, i won't post the answer then.
what's wrong with ads if you have nothing to hide?
adaway
>>51743874
They basically use space in my screen ._.
nope
Adguard is better than ABP if unrooted. Just got it yesterday and it seems pretty good.
>>51743828
you are all homogaybians.
Xposed+Unbeloved Hosts
Masterrace
>>51744712
Doesnt AdAway block the some url's?
>>51744712
Adaway works well enough, but I haven't used it in two years.
>>51744712
how the fuck do you install xposed on cm12? or is it even possible?
>>51744712
Go on.
>>51745588
It is, and I am.
You need to read the Xposed thread on XDA and grab the files from there.
All of my modules are loaded and working.
GAPS FREE- even the kernel cannot phone home.
The power in intoxicating!!

They are fucking ads, thats whats wrong with them!
>>51743864
I never really got it to work... Ads on apps like chrome and YouTube still came up..
AdGuard works without root
>>51743828
Adaway; You can get in on FDroid
>>51745982
Teach me your ways based anon, for real. I simply gave up after tons of research thinking it was botnot (to some extent) or no smartphone unless I wanted to code an entire OS myself.
Is it all in one thread?
>>51747938
Not sure about YouTube, but I know AdAway won't won't work with Chrome if it (Chrome) is in "data saver" mode.
>>51744712
I just tried this and it was slow as shit compared to adaway. Made all websites have additional delay when loading.
I use AdAway and MinMinGuard (Xposed), is it redundant to use both?
>>51747938
>I never really got it to work... Ads on apps like chrome and YouTube still came up..
It needs root.
And on HTC devices with S-On you need to change the path. There is a guide online
>>51744712

You sad little existence tbqh family
>>51750171
>thinking xposed gives you additional control instead of just adding another layer of unstable bullshit
>not using root with a decent custom ROM
>not using a permission manager
Being this pleb and still being on /g/. Don't you feel out of place here?

>Xposed +
>MinMinGuard
>Youtube AdAway
I browse with Firefox for Android and install the Ublock Origin extension.
Doesn't work with apps, so don't use apps with ads. You would have trouble blocking them anyway.
>>51743828
Adblock browser
>>5174thereI understand how you feel.
make no mistake, there has been allot of hair pulling and frustration along the way. however, with each mistake came a new bit of knowledge.
sometimes I would give up for a few days to clear my mind, and attack a problem with a fresh perspective.
Android is botnet- but, with some work, you can have control over the device that belongs to YOU- NOT the other way around.
All the information you need is all there buried within the chaos that are the XDA Developer's threads. You must be patient, and read carefully. I have found that, many of the issues others have encountered are a result of not following directions. Some devices are problematic, and require work-arounds.
Arm yourself with the 3 fold shield of power, and above all learn them well.
1 ROOT
2 AFWall+ (especially settings) read the documentation
3 XposedFramework + XPrivacy (especially settings) read the documentation.
Go, grasshopper... be diligent in your quest, for the path is narrow and steep.
Up ahead, there is a clearing where our family plays in relative freedom.
We shall meet there and never know.
Can you grok it?
>>51750845
>I browse with Firefox for Android and install the Ublock Origin extension.
Not really needed anymore. If you go to about:config and turn on Tracking Protection (which uses the same blocklist as Disconnect) it effectively blocks all advertisements.
>>51747938
If you have xposed installed go and install YouTube adblock module. It's regularly updated and I've never seen ads since I've been using it.
>>51747574
Made my morning little better anon.

>decent custom ROM
That's like saying "straight faggot"
>>51753525
AFwall+ doesn't work on my device, what's a good alternative?
>>51753967
>>decent custom ROM
>That's like saying "straight faggot"
Are you suggesting that the hardware manufacturer's shitty software is better than a custom tailored ROM that uses less battery while giving a better feeling and being way more customizable?
Why hasn't someone made a browser for android that can use FF plugins/chrome extensions?
Is it some inherent limitation of the OS or what?
If not, why doesn't someone just fucking port Chromium to Android?
>>51753990
If you don't have root, you're missing out.
if you're having technical issues with AFWall, that's another matter.
Without specifics, I can't advise you.
What you can do is try different apps and see what works for you.
A particularly enlightening moment for me was the day I blocked ALL TRAFFIC on my device, then without launching any apps, checked my firewall logs.
I had a flashlight app making IPv6 connections to a server in Japan, ES FileExplorer Pro routinely attempts connections to 4 separate IP addresses.
The kernel is far worse. Bear in mind, I do not have any Google Apps on my device, and am running Cyanogen. The list goes on, and on.
If you value your privacy, and you do not want to be bombarded with ADs for shit you will never want, find a way to get your device under your control, or replace it.
>>51754710
>ES FileExplorer Pro routinely attempts connections to 4 separate IP addresses.
New or old version?
Did you disable auto update?
>>51754799
I purchased the new paid version, v1.01
As I like to deal with facts, I will recheck the settings, clear my logs, and retest. Expect an updated post from me in a few minutes, family.
>>51754799 as promised:
The new version of ES, does not seem to have the auto update option in settings. Tapping on help takes you to an old help page for version 3.
There is an odd setting which was on by default, which I have turned off under >Settings>BackupSettings>Enable Remote Sychronize / upload file automatically when edited by locally by 3rd party app.
I do not use the cloud services integration function.
Here is the log entry:

Also, the app has the LicsenseCheck permission, which would account for at least one connection.
Is there a root method out for G900V OG5 on lollipop 5.0 yet? Or a downgrade yet?
>>51755137
>>51755421
>new paid version
You dun goof'd
Why didn't you just get one of the old versions (preferably pre-4.0)?
>>51743828
AdAway used to be pretty good, I've been having some issues with it lately though.
>>51743828
You are all f*cking morons.
Use Firefox for Android and install the adblock plugin.
>>51755852
I have the old version.
I like ES, and really just want to support it's development.
I allow ES access to may LAN only to access shares.
Solid Explorer is also good, but also 'beacons'.
FX File Manager is the only one that does not try to access the outside.
Unfortunately, it drops connections on me, and doesn't support resuming like ES does. FTP transfers have also been unreliable. I have them all and use them in different ways.
Hopefully one day, one of them will surprise me with an awesome update that makes the world a better place through robust, spy-free file management! One must often take the good with the bad. Wouldn't you agree?
>>51757072
>I allow ES access to may LAN only to access shares.
So if the infringing connections have been blocked out, then where's the problem?
>>51755852
BTW, the old versions phone home, too.
You may recall the incident where a curious hacker found some suspicious activity With ES a while back. There was a lot of talk about it. Drop the phrase, ' es file explorer spying ' into your favorite search engine and read about it. I learned about it right here in our family club house.
ADs, spying, and data mining can all be mitigated and controlled with some work.
>>51743828
>install Fdroid
>permissions for AdAway wants to keep my phone from sleeping.
This sounds bad. Is it, or am I just overreacting?
>>51757308
>Drop the phrase, ' es file explorer spying ' into your favorite search engine and read about it.
IIRC that just turned out to be the update server.
>>51757281
Exactly- there is no problem, but it you wanted to connect to public resource, you'd have to create custom firewall rules for ES, or give them your data.
>>51757400
perhaps, but it was discovered that among the encrypted days being sent was geo-location. I'm not keen on any app developer wanting to know where I'm standing without my specific content.
Meta data is powerful. Do not under estimate what can be done with it.
Its not just ES, it's everyone.
>>51755927
that only blocks ads in firefox
