They should have made the pcb white as well, and then I would have bought one to frame and hang on the wall.

$425 for 400GB

That's the price in my country

Nope

No I don't, Tyrone. So don't steal my shit.

I got the SATA-600 128GB from Samsung's 830 series.

Good enough for me.
I'd get a 500GB Samsung 850 if I had to do a new build.
Modern games take up so much space, 60GB installs don't fit next to my OS and the software I actually need.

Kek. It's pci-e or bust

How viable is it to adapt an m.2 ssd to pci-e?

Going by ebay prices it seems you could have a working set-up for less than $90.
>>
No, but I want one.

It's so minimalistic. If I had a PCI-E SSD, I wouldn't have to cable manage SATA cables anymore.

Any legitimate reason to choose a 950 PRO or a Intel 750 Series over a standard SSD, other than e-peen measuring?

I have to ask because there's literally 0 (zero) difference in the real world between the two. So why pay twice as much other than for having big numbers in that weeb disk bench software?

No, i'm serious here. Tell me.

Oh, and let's not forget about the overheating issue on the 950 PRO series.
>>
Pcie ssds are for professional use imo. They take up a slot on the motherboard and use room like a vudeo card or other ocie based device would. All this when any good m.2 ssd would give decent speeds and be out of the way and not take up room. I mean shit, some good motherboards even offer dual m.2 slots.

For the common user even m.2 ssds are overkill. Theyre pricy but useful for mitx builders or those who are just looking to save space/harddrive slot/ sata port on the motherboard.

>>
>>51720076
Actually it isn't. The 850 Pro is superior.

How viable would it be to get an NVMe drive and on boot load it into a RAM disk? Obviously the RAM would be ridiculously expensive and you would need to leave some RAM left over, but would it be worth it for a crazy-high-end build?

why
>>
>>51716199
I bought the 500GB 850 EVO SSD. I'm unimpressed and think it's a total waste of money but one of my HDDs started making the head reset clicking noise which means I needed a new storage device anyway.
>>
>>51716199

PCIe and .M2 Express SSD devices are the new "SCSI high RPM HDDs" of yesterday.

Higher premiums for superior I/O throughput that is overkill outside of an enterprise setting.

Your applications load times under SATA-III SSD are CPU-limited. .M2 Express and PCIe SSD device just makes moving GiBs of data quicker.

Had

I had the 400gb 750.

Returned it after two weeks since I saw zero real life performance increase over my 120gb force2 ssd

So I replaced the Intel with the 512gb Samsung pro.

Still no major change from the corsair or the Intel ssd, but this was cheaper and 10 year warranty

no i got a samsung 850 500gb

this. so much this. I've had tons of problems with bad or broken IDE/ATA and S-ATA cables. The quality can be from well enough to absolute shit, with an PCI-E SSD this hopefully would never happen again.
