Is 8GB of ram sufficient these days?

My PC is using 75% of my ram and only thing i am using is Firefox
>>
>>51705319
have you considered restarting firefox?
>>
>>51705319
>8GB
No, if you're poor, 16Gb is enough, if you're not poor, 32 is comfy.
>>
8GB is fine.

if i was building new i'd go for 16 or 32 just to make my dick feel better.
>>
You can fix it by installing gentoo.
>>
>>51705319
use a tab suspender. fucking os within an os should have an inbuilt max memory setting. fucking nerds.
>>
I can have like 20 different applications open at once (including memory hogs like Firefox, Photoshop, and FL Studio) and I've never gone over 90%

Did he died?

I'm running on 3GB, 666mhz in my desktop. Pretty fucking state-of-the-art. At the heart of it all is the IntelĀ® Core2 Duo E6600 (4MB Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB). I can feel the jealousy from here.

I get 60fps in LoL with all the settings up except AA and with firefox and a certain shitty music player running behind.

Take that as you will.
>>
>>51705597
I probably need a fresh install of windows then, but cant be bothered with it.

Buying more ram is easier
>>
Even 6GB of ram is fine still, only get 16gb+ if you plan of doing tasks that require a lot of ram.
>>
>>51705708
well of course you don't feel the problem with your RAM. Your RAM amount is irrelevant because it is powered by Satan himself.

>>51705319
as for your question OP, 8gb is perfectly fine. When running Windows 7, playing whatever new garbage AAA title I convinced myself to buy, with Firefox in the background, I still only use maybe 5.5gb of ram.

Then again I only ever have at most 6 tabs open in FF. As far as price, local Microcenter has 8gb kits (2x4gb) of ddr3 2400mhz for $50. 16gb kits (2x8gb) of the same brand and speed for $80. If budget isn't an issue, go ahead and shoot for 16gb as $30 isn't exactly bank breaking. Ddr4 is more expensive than ddr3 of course but the pricing is relatively the same. $70 for 8gb kit of ddr4 3000mhz and $110 for same brand same speed 16gb kit.

I bought my 8gb kit when it was $35 before the big RAM factory fire. Corsair LP vengeance 1600mhz CL9. Never saw the need for more.

1-2GB is enough for a single task user

Currently have 6 tabs open alongside a few programs running and I'm only at 39%
>>
>>51707143

38% here on 8 gigs, win 10, 12 tabs open.
>>
8 GB of RAM is perfectly fine. Currently using a shit laptop with only 4, my browser and media have always run perfectly fine. Don't think I've ever used over like 60% at once.

using 4gb out of 8gb daily
>>
>>51705319
Getting 16 gigs isn't too expensive anymore, but you don't need anywhere near 8g to browse the internet. You got something else fucked up.
>>
>>51705319
>sufficient

This word is meaningless when it comes to RAM. If you are only using 8GB of RAM stop wasting time by doing things too linearly.

Open up Five different firefox windows, each with 50 tabs. Do the same with Maya and Photoshop. All while playing some shootan games too.

RAM is a commodity a cheap one too. Abuse it.
>>
>>51705319
typical americans dumbass drivers
>>
>>51705319
Your computer will make use of the RAM you have. If you're using 75% it doesn't necessarily mean you need more.
>>
>>51705319
unused RAM is wasted RAM anon. Only upgrade if you are experiencing crashes or constant reloading
>>
>>51708697
The two fucks that hit them are retarded but why the fuck are they stopped in the middle of the highway?
>>
>>51709131
Their car probably stalled.

Still doesn't preclude them from doing the sensible thing by turning on the hazard lights and not wandering on a highway like dumbasses. Everyone involved in this accident were colossal retards, but the guy who got out of the driver's seat and straddled the lanes was just begging to get run over. Holy moly.

>>
>>51705319
I bought a cheap 2gb ram laptop to read my books and for IRC, but I'm using it right now like an every day desktop and the only problem is that it can get slow if you have the tendency of opening 12 tabs and never fucking closing one.
>>51705451
>32gb
y tho
>>
>>51705319
unless you run heavy RAM consuming software (Autocad for instance) 8GB is more than enough. Most OS take about 1, maybe 2 GB. Browsers take as much ram as the amount of tabs you open, but it's rarely over 4GB. And 99% of games out there use 1-2 GB of VRAM and 4GB of RAM tops. Ignore most faggots here that need 64 GB of RAM for their autism to cool off.
>>
>>51710425
>32GB
Ramdisk most likely.
Or Photoshop, etc.
>>
I have a friend who moans that firefox is shit because look at all the ram it's using!

So I look over and he has fucking hundreds of tabs open. No fucking shit!

I told him of the existence of something called "bookmarks" but he refuses to use it.

Why do some people refuse to use bookmarks, /g/? He's not the first to reject using bookmarks, by the way.
>>
>>51705319
I have a hard time using more than 1 GiB of RAM, unless I am doing something that is actually memory intensive.

>Feels good to be Linux master race.
>>
Your computer will attempt to use as much physical RAM as it can get its hands on. Unless you're one of those people who keeps 50+ tabs open at all time, 2GB should be plenty for Firefox or Chrome.
>>
>>51705319
I've seen this gif a countless number of times and I didn't even notice the first person who got hit until now.
>>
>>51710425

I like you anon. 32gb for comfy status, when I get there I will post on /g/ my comfy 32gb status.

8GB is overkill
Pic related, probably the most I've used since I bought 8GB last year; compiling shit on Gentoo
>>
Use palemoon bro
It uses like 500 MB RAM max with like 30 tabs open, not to mention all Firefox plugins work with it
>>
>>51711225
OP probably has tons of tabs open though
>>
>>51711219
To add on to this, I'm also running firefox with ublock and youtube playing, steam downloading a
game, and i3wm running.
>>
Yes, 8gb is what 4gb was 7 years ago.

If you went up to 16, or down to 4, firefox would likely still be using 75% percent of it. I'd suggest restarting it, or installing waterfox.

>>51705488
This is also a solution.
