If an of the documents were proven fake it would totally discredit the whole thing. If there were fake documents then it would be in the government's best interest to point this out or at least deny the existence of the mentioned operations. Since these documents often involve large companies as well, it would stand to reason that it would also be in their best interest to deny their authenticity as well. However they have not done this. Instead they have either remained silent or they have released statements that don't really say anything, which probably means they are under a gag order.
