Answered like someone who understands Boolean logic.

plz no jokes
>>
It's widely considered (outside of /g/ too) to be one of the great texts on CS
>>
>>51688572
it's like asking if principia mathematica is good for learning math
>>
>>51689738
No it isn't. How is SICP outdated? How is SICP not pedagogical? It's an intro text not a book presenting new ideas.
>>
>>51688572
Its a meme for a reason. Read it and you'll see.
>>
Only helps if you do the exercises which are super hard.
Don't think you'll swift through it in a month or two this shit takes at least a year or so
>>
>>51690299
b-but on mit they were doin it in one semester
>>
>>51690355
Well yes they taught it in a semester but the authors added extra exercises in the book. It's a really good book if that's what you want to hear.
>>
>>51688572
SICP+Gentoo is /g/'s version of SS+GOMAD
>>
>find Artificial Intelligence textbook from 70s at a used bookstore
>$10 why the fuck not
>it's all written in LISP

how do i into lisp
>>
>>51692303
Embrace the fact that procedures are data and parentheses are life.
>>
>>51692303
Which book? Apparently Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming by Norvig is a good AI book that also teaches Lisp, but I haven't gotten around to it yet sadly.
>>
>>51688572
you either aren't smart enough to read it or you will never have enough time.

We all should have gone to MIT in the 80s....
>>
>>51692595
Good news anon ~

>>
>>51692595
It's still used in some of the MIT courses.
>>
>>51692465
>if it's PAIP by Norvig you dungud
>>
I think the most important thing is to struggle through the exercises (even if you don't solve them). In the videos Sussman talks to them like total babbys and even gets tripped up while reviewing the exercises. A lot of successful computer science researchers admit that the exercises are tough, especially for students.
>>
>>51692595
I think they teach at berkeley.
>>
>>51693483
My professor says they're especially tough for people who don't know proof based math

what is version of ss t-rex leg victim on /g/?

fizzbuzz master?
>>
>>51692595
bruh, it is cs entry book
>>
>>51688572
>this book will make me significantly better programmer
Yes.

>is it a /g/ meme book?
"Meme" has lost all meaning since normalfags started using it as a generic insult to someone's tastes or posts. Argumentum ad meme.
>>
>>51697339
ad memenem
>>
>>51688572
I picked it up a few years ago, read the first chapter till tree recursions then set it back down. Now it serves a better purpose, propping up my monitor to eye level.

It is filled with a bunch of esoteric nonsense that the majority of people will never find useful. It is for CS students and the like that enjoy filling their heads with pointless abstractions. It will not make you a better programmer.
>>
>>51697469
Recursion is the standard and easiest way of walking a tree.

>It will not make you a better programmer.
What would? Bearing in mind that programming is purely the use of data structures and algorithms to solve problems.
>>
>>51688572
I only read about 30% of the book, and not a Lisp version, but instead a Lua version. It really opened my eyes in some aspects. Especially recursive programmings techniques. Unlike >>51697469
I consider myself a better programmer after reading (only 30%) of SICP.
>>
It's a CS book, if all you ever want to do is click together Javascript frameworks, it's not for you.
>>
>>51697339
I might take a course in Latin so I can sound like a smart arse on /g/ as well.
>>
>>51697586
Read you SICP you dilettante cunt.
>>
>>51694519
>I think they teach at berkeley.
they use a book called "Simply Scheme" which is a dumbed down version of SICP

What about this?
>>
>>51697708
No m8 they have sicp lectures from 2011 on utube.
>>
>>51690355
They also have teachers, reception hours, midterm exams that force you into a pace.
>>
>>51690299
I read through the first 4 chapters in a month, including the exercises. I had borrowed it from the school library, so I couldn't finish it.

That's nearly half a decade ago
