my university accommodation is (i think) throttling my torrent downloads. should be getting 2-3 mbps and instead getting less 60-80kbps. What can i do? Strangely, my downloads will occasionally run at full speed, but I don't know why.
There is a chance that your university split the internet connection for multiple occupants, so you and your neighbors are sharing that 2-3mbps. If your fast time correlate to low traffic periods like during the day when everyone is in class, that could be it. Most universities either do nothing or block p2p completely (mine blocked it). Throttling seems like a weird choice unless you have a data cap.

Why are you downloading at your university.
You will be disciplined.

maybe, that could actually be it, i'll try to keep an eye on it and figure out why it picks up at certain times. >>51686747
hahaha not at university, at student halls, my bad i wasn't very clear in my OP.

Student Halls? Isn't that at your University. I mean Anon, they could be giving you a chance to stop downloading but fucking with your connection. The IT dude or manage could be trying to do you a solid instead of reporting you.
Also next time post this in a stupid question thread, faggot.

nah dude it's private student halls, didn't think it was all that stupid a question but will do

Dewd... don't use up an internet connection other people might need to use more urgently than you...
>>51687454
they provide internet for like 300 people at this site alone, I'm sure it's suited for more than 1 person using it at a time.

It's scheduled throttling, and enjoy the police knocking at your door when they are fed up with your bullshit.
Public hotspots at college and universities is one of the favorite places for them to swoop down at for piracy.

you don't seem to be able to understand what student accommodation is, it's not a public place.
